Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone out there has this issue with the same "album" in different resolutions?
In my music collection I have 16bit and 24 bit flac concerts of the same.
For example
Artist2009-07-17.16bit.flac
Artist2009-07-17.24bit.flac
When I go to play that show if there happens to be both formats available,
mediaportal will lump both folders together as one album and I have doubles of every track than.
It does keep them in order for example the 24bit show tracks are all in the top than the 16bit begins or vice versa.

Is this a tagging issue, or a view issue I have set in mediaportal?

I'm not really sure where to begin in resolving this slight issue of mine.
I suppose I could get rid of the 16bit versions but I like to keep them around in case
I need to burn a show for someone. I record concerts and my masters are in 24 bit
yet I also process them to 16bit to burn discs for friends and leave them on the fileserver once
the work is done so I won't have to do it again if needed.

I'm still getting a grip on "views" in mediaportal as well as getting my music collection tagged correctly.
With that said I feel I'm just missing something in getting mediaportal to display and play music like
I want it.

ok it seems like I just need to tweak the views and deal with what I figure out.
If I view by share it shows both my folders, now to see if I can tweak it a little more.
:sorry:

That deals directly with the tagging.
If you have two of the same albums, just different resolutions, how do YOU differentiate from both of them? Do they both have the same exact album titles? If they do, why not just relabel the 24-bit version something like this example?

Artist - Album
Various Artist - Concert 2007
Various Artist - Concert 2007 (24bit)

This way, MP will sort it as two different albums.

MP will sort it as two different albums if I select "share" view
the folders are named like this, all folders are named in this format actually.
bandname2009-07-19.16bit.flac
bandname2009-07-19.24bit.flac
If I choose to view with "year" it will/did lump those two together.
I thought maybe I needed to tag the files someway different but I also see
I just need to work with the views and set up what will work best for how I want it.

That's because in Shares, it does not look at the tags. It looks at what you physically have on that harddrive folder. So since you have two different folders, it sees two different folders. Get it?
In the other modes all look at your tags. So it doesn't really care how you have the folders set up, it just reads the tags.

If you take the time, and fix your tags the way you want them to be, the other views work great.

Example, if you have 10 different music files in ten different folders, but tag them all as the same artist and album, if you view by Artist/Album/Album-Artist/etc, it will put all 10 music files as one album... because it's tagged to be the same album.
If you view by Shares, it will show 10 different folders.
