I'd just like to start by saying how grateful I am for everyones hard work (fforde especially) for this most awesome plugin.

I had a short wandering to XBMC a while ago when I saw MediaStream (which is coming to Media Portal and I'm going to love it), and I came across a small program called media companion which is sort of a scraper for XBMC movies and TV. This scraper doesn't really build it's own database, but builds NFOs and downloads cover art and fan art for each movie in the movie's directory. I read somewhere that Moving Pictures supports or will support scanning NFO files for updating the database. I'm not sure whether it also looks in the movie folder for fan art and covers before downloading them but that'd be good too (and kind of off point).

Anyway, I've had to rebuild my moving pictures database a few times now and I think it'd be great if we could build NFO files for each movie after running the moving pictures scraper. This would act as an export/import process, and would speed up rebuilding the database immensely.

I realise that after the next update we'll have a lot less bugs which will cause us to rebuild the database, but I store my 400 odd movies in a central datastore and whenever I reinstall mediaportal on any of my machines I have to re-download all the movie information and spend a few hours ensuring the correct movies have been scraped, when if I had the NFOs, cover art and fan art already there it could just zip through and be done almost instantly and perfectly.

This is just a suggestion. I don't want to add it to any list unless someone else agrees this could be a good idea.

Hi All

I already have a NAS full of Movies and NFO files with Translated movie desciptions...
And poster art in HDV, so my Q is can Moving Pictures Read the NFO files created with for example

Media Companion?

I know it cant create them.....but that dosent matter if it can read them! :D

I like the idea of this but I just name the files to what it wants them to be.

When I first used movingpictures I just scanned and went through the list and found the ones it didnt automatically find and renamed the movies to that, but dont check them as correct yet. Close the config and then reopen and see if it finds the ones you renamed and keep doing this until it finds them all by itself.

This does take some time but if you rescan again you can just let it go and you know it will find them all.

....?? Are you talking about scanning the movies by titles? I always name the Movie folder after the IMDB.com
and the same go for my Movie.iso file and Movie.nfo and movie.tbn etc .....So thats not the problem.

The problem is that I have a 1080 pixel Highres cover in the same folder and a NFO file with the movie description translatet to my native language and it would be a shame to just run a scan and get the standard view when I have used so much time keeping all relevant movie information in each movie folder...

Even when I do a complete re-install or set-up a XBMC box in the guest room I just point to the shared Movie & TV folder and it does the rest....

:D for the development request link I will subscribe to it and see what happens ;)

Would it catch the link like this: (NFO file XBMC)

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

Would the "<id>tt0814022</id>" be enough or does it need to be aa NFO file with the actual link : Bangkok Dangerous (2008) ?

    Thanks
