    Hi guys,

I use XMLTV to grab my EPG data for MP and it all works perfectly but the first time I use the guide each day it slows system performance dramatically for 5 minutes will MP imports the guide... :(

Can anyone suggest a way to schedule a task to run this import in the early hours of the morning????? (so it's pre-loaded when I use it)

    Thanks :)

Use the Task Scheduling that is built intoWindows XP - you can set a date/time for the XMLTV command to run.

Another trick I use is to start the XMLTV process with a lower priority - this way it lets other processes do their stuff (such as MP) without a big performance hit...

    Hi Everyone

I think what BKCH is saying is not the xmltv download but the xml file import into MP, which is what happens when you enter TV by default.
Does have a nasty habit of freezing GUI on import, again this is part of the cleanup of code that is going on at the moment.
Hopefully this will be minimised in upcoming/future release.
As I tend to leave MP running 24/7 not a problem for a lot of users like myself, but i can understand if u only use occassionally.
Please have patience, Having a EPG is easier to live with than without.

What speed computer are we talking here? My 2600+ has no problems loading the tvguide (from bootup), and starting the tvguide as soon as MP is open. The log shows MP imports the tvguide (6 days worth, ~2000 programs) and that takes about 30 seconds.

it's not a long time (I can confirm the 30 seconds) but it is very annoying as it virtually stops anything else.

So if you start MP and you go to EPG to look what is going on you have to wait until the data is read in.

It is for sure not a prio 1 problem ...

I would say the read-the-epg-data-in-task should be given a very low priority so that it can not disturb the front-end-task ...

    thanks+regards

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feedback. In my setup it is well over 30 seconds to import the file - maybe not as high as 5 minutes but it is over 1 minute. My setup is a 3GHz Pentium with 1GB ram - but because I have *lots* of channels (Foxtel + FTA) my guide is routinely 13000+ programs.

It would be great if I could somehow trick MP into thinking I hit the "TV Guide" button in the middle of the night - does anyone know if it's possible to schedule a phantom keystroke?!
