MediaPortal Version: 1.2.0

It's my first time using MediaPortal, I was using popcornhour c-200.

i have a collection of over 2,800 movies, tv series...all organized, each in it's folder, with associated files (nfo, fanart, poster, subtitle...etc.)

I was wondering, first time I want to create the database with MediaPortal, what's the best way to do it? is it through the configuration setup? or is there a better way/faster way to do it?

Question: If I build the database, will this affect any of my existing files (nfo, fanart...etc.)? I want to keep those, since I want to use popcorn hour from time to time also.

thanks

If it's TV series you'll want the TV series plugin and for movies Moving Pictures plugin will automatically scrape all the info for all you media. Just download and install the plugins (check the plugins area of the forum) the enter the mediaportal config utility and point the plugins to the folder(s) with you media in.

Oh and your existing ifo files and fanart can be reused by Mediaportal if you choose to do so

Let's say I want to use the built in feature of MediaPortal for scrapping the data, that means it will connect to the internet and download all the data. If i do this, will my existing nfo, fanart...etc. be affected? Or will it remain as it was?

Nothing that MP currently downloads is put in your TV\Movie folders, it all goes in MP database and fanart folders, so existing files are not affected.
