Hi,

I had problems with watching *.mkv files in media portal and therefore I installed SAF v5.00 as described in this post:

https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/codecs-331/saf-v5-00-final-based-ffdshow-dxva-decoder-77591/

After installing SAF v5.00 it is possible to watch mkv files but now the screen size is reduced when watching DVD files and non-HD TV channels (black area around the DVD movie or TV channel). Of course it is possible to zoom in to fill out nearly the whole TV but it seems that then the quality is reduced (as always when zooming in).

There is no problem with mkv files and HD TV channels, they fill out the complete screen of my HD ready TV.

Any ideas how to have full screen mode for DVD movies and non-HD TV channels again?

Thanks in advance.

Under MP Config go to Videos>Video Zoom and make the Defult mode Stretch, then it will fill the screen no matter the resolution of the video.

    Thanks for the quick answer.

I adjusted the Video Zoom setting as described by you but when watching DVD video file it is still not in full screen mode (or stretch mode). The default is still normal mode, even after a system reboot.
Is there maybe a seperate setting for Moving Pictures that needs to be considered since I'm watching the movie within this plug in?

If you go into the start menu then saf 5 then FFDshow video settings there's a item called resize & stretch (or something similar) untick the box for that item then all should be well. Remember to put media portal back to the "normal" stretch setting

Yes, that's what I also tried (remove the flag from this option in ffdshow) but this didn't solve the problem. Any other ideas?

Did you hit Info while playing a video to make sure it is actually in Normal mode?

If the DVD file has black bars encoded in the video then you can not stretch it since it sees the black bars as video.
When a video file is played that does not have black bars encoded into it, in normal mode the player will add them
to make it the proper aspect ratio, so in this case they can be removed because they were added by the player but
if the bars are part of the video then there is nothing you can do but to encode the video without them.

The problem is that Normal is always the default mode, even if I change the MP configuration as described above. It is also possible to change the screen format while watching the DVD video (To Letterbox 4:3, Stretch; Zoom etc.) but I'd prefer to adjust the default video mode.

You can try unchecking all the other options except Stretch under MP Config and see if it stays that way, I use the Stretch and it works fine, there must be something causing it to change itself back.
