Is there any way to display/find out what format a DVB-T stream is in.. I often wonder what format a broadcaster uses program to program as some HD channels are nice and smooth while others are jerky with HIGH frame drop rates. I'm wondering if certain SD/HD formats are the issue?!

Can I find out if a stream is 576i 576p 1080i 1080p 720i 720p etc ????

It is easy in Australia - Ch 7, 9 & 10 HD are all 1080i, Ch 2 HD is 720p and SBS HD is 576p. All the SD channels are 576i.

How about using ffdshow and turn on the OSD, then you can see the resolution etc.

Taipan - I was wondering if 9 and 10 change format program by program as I suspect all content isn't HD sourced.. I know the Cricket on 1Feb will be HD.. but in what format..

Petsa - I haven' t used ffdshow and I found the purevideo codecs stable.. but I might load them up and play around.

My biggest problem is that ABC and SBS HD both stutter badly (especially when panning). 7, 9 and 10 are all fine.. also if I look at the display stats (using ! while viewing TV) I see LOTS of dropped packets on ABC and SBS.. Anyone have any ideas?

9 HD and 10 HD always broadcast in 1080i, even if the scource material is SD. The SD material is "upscaled" to HD format for broadcast.

Yes - this is a bug in the Nvidia decoder - it won't work correctly with progressive video formats. Both ABC HD and SBS HD are progressive - while all the other HD channels are interlaced. See here for more information on the Nvidia bug ...

Remember also that Nvidia mpeg2 decoder development has been stopped.

Taipan, I can't thank you enough. I hadn't come across your other thread until today. I thought Nvidia were the best and just stuck with them. I'll be switching as soon as I can get my hands on PDVD7.

Taipan - Thank you again.. picked up an oem version of PowerDVD today and can now watch SBS and ABC in HD!
