What's the best way to get guide data for this? The schedules direct plugin seems to be updated for 1.3 only. On top of that, how can I import .mpe1 files to a stand alone server? Do I need to reinstall with full to get MPEM? Is there a better way?

Summary, you have three options:
1. SchedulesDirect (I'm sure it will be updated for MP 1.4 if it is not compatible - ask)
2. mc2xml
3. WebGrab

Choose the one that suits you best.

Yes, this is a bit of a problem. We're aware of it.
As far as I know it is possible to change the mpe1 file extension to zip to get the DLLs you need.

Changed the mpe1 to zip and moved over all the dll stuff into plugins on the server. Schedules Direct is working fine for local antenna channels. Thanks!
