I've had MP running quite happily on MySQL, but deceided to change to SQL server as I'm running it for other reasons apart from MP.
I've installed SQL Express 2008, but the client won't connect to the server. It just hangs at "loading windows plugins" stage for 5 mins, and again when I try to go to My Tv.
When I turn the server firewall off, it all works happily. Sadly, leaving the server firewall off is not a long term solution!

I've done the following:
Added MP as a firewall exception
Added SQL server executable as a firewall exception - sqlservr.exe
Added TCP ports 1433, 31254
Configured SQL Server Config Mgr, set TCP/IP to enabled; under IPAll, set dynamic ports blank and TCP Port to 1433

I've now run out of ideas! Help please.

Logs attached from client PC.

Richard.

I had the same problem with SQL Express 2008. Tried it on 2 different system never went passed loading plugins on one system took 5 minutes to get by it on the other and on that system I could never connect to TV once it started. I never did get a fix for it, but now using RC6 with a fresh install and MYSQL Server 5.1 its running smooth for me (MP downloads and installs this version by itself during install procedure) Hope this helps some if it dosent you may have to do what I did amd stick with XP or an older version of MP.

AFAIK, SQL Server 2008 is using dynamic TCP port. You need to configure it for fixed value.
