Looking at replacing a PSU I am using from another computer.

It is currently a 300W PSU and it seems to be working fine,if a little noisy.

So, would it be a good purchase to buy:

which is a fanless power-supply. Or would you recommend a Seasonic - only misgiving I have with that is its 500W. Does it consume 500W even when there is not 500W draw?

Bit nervous of fanless power supplies, any confidence you can provide much appreciated.

No, that's just the maximum rated DC power that it can deliver. Typically, PC switch-mode power supplies are better than 75% efficient, so if you are drawing 200W from it, the power supply will be wasting another 25% (50W) as heat and will be drawing a total of 250W from your AC mains. This is true irrespective of the maximum output rating of the power supply - whether it is a 200W or a 500W.... :)

From what I heard, a fanless PSU in a HTPC is not such a great idea.
The reason to this is that you then need to have chassis fans get ridd of hot air in the chassis.
Normaly, these make more noise than the PSU fans, as they often are larger.

HTPC case fans are normally 60mm fans that make a lot of noice (since they need to spin much faster to be able to transport the hot air away).
Therefore it can be better to have a PSU with a silent fan that helps the case fans transport the hot air out of the case.
Bigger case fans are always better than small ones, since they transport a lot of air even at low speeds.
