Skipping Playback Back Or Forward. Video catch up (1 Viewer)

Hi,

Does anyone else have the problem when skipping back or forward in playback that the picture moves to the new position but then speeds up for 5-10 seconds but audio is fine?

This happens for me when playing DVDs and HD tv series. It's as though it skips to a part too soon and then speeds up the video until it catches up with the audio.

Used Media Portal before on my old XP machine with no problems. Exactly same setup but on vista is causing this problem.

Anyone help???

Set the affinity to one core of your quad cpu, see if it goes.

I tried setting mediaportal.exe to use 1 then 2 then 3 and finally all 4 cores. When I set it to anything but all 4 the picture was choppy and unstable and the sound was out of sync. However when it was set to 1 the scene did seem to come straight up when skipping through. As soon as I introduced more cores the skipping would still play and then catch up.

Is this a know issue?

Yep, affects MCE\individual players as well, different codecs behave better with dual\quad cores than others, there may be some other factors involved as well, like graphics\sound driver affecting playback, that's why its such a bitch trying to pinpoint for a individual system.

There is a huge post over at thegreenbutton forum about this subject.

Might be worthwhile getting PowerDVD8 Trial and using this instead of Nvidia (literally they are updated purevideo anyway), you can use the codecs without registering the software.

BTW it would help to know which codecs are being used for this stuttering you have, gspot is most probably the best to check for this.

I use Purevideo for DVDs and CoreAVC for h264 stuff. Both have the same effect although when I skip in a DVD it is less severe and normal picture and sound are resumed after 3-5 seconds. H264 stuff can take 10-15 sometimes to go back to real time. I find it's best to skip, stop then resume. Not nice but it does work that way

Turned out it was a problem with the AC3 filter and SPDif passthrough. Not entirely sure how I fixed it but I installed PowerDVD8 and told mediaportal to use cyberlink for all audio decoding. I also messed with the AC3filter settings as well. It probably doesn't even use AC3Filter now.

Anyway. It works!

ps. I found a noticable difference using the cyberlink mpeg2 over nvidias purevideo. Purevideo is much better imho. Maybe I need to set up some other settings somewhere??
