Sky+ on HTPC using Mediaportal (1 Viewer)

Hello,

Apologies for raising a subject that has been done to death but I have recently seen Sky advertising constantly on TV and am still a little miffed that I am missing out on some great channels.

I know that there are ways of getting Sky on something other than a Digibox, which of course are against their terms and conditions and there is the problem of having to keep putting the card back into the Digibox every now and again.

I was just wondering whether anyone had actually talked to Sky directly about legitimately getting Sky on an HTPC.

I have just come off a live chat session with Sky and was very upfront with them - I explained that I wanted to use Sky with Mediaportal and was perpared to buy the Digibox, even if I was not going to use it.

Surprisingly, I was not told that I could not and given a telephone number to discuss further.

Do you think that this is a dead end or worth pursing?

I know that Sky say that this is not allowed but then I would expect them to say this as they would prefer everyone to use their Digiboxes but this still gives them the right to allow me to go ahead with the above if they agree to it - afterall, I am offering to give them £40.00 per month, odd for their trouble.

Do you think I should ring to discuss this or will it ultimately end in disappointment?

Before anyone says, I know that there is a legitimate way or running the Sky Digitbox signal into the analgoue input of a TV tuner, but if I pay for a Sky subscription, I want the whole hog or nothing at all.

What is the deal with the Sky Card now? I had Sky many years ago and seem to remember that there was a maximum time during which you had put the card back in the digibox to keep the account "active"..

Using the latest versions of the very clever open source conditional access module software they will update the Sky card with the entitlements as required, including Box Office. The only thing they cannot do at present is bypass the HBO pin lock requirement; i.e. if on your decoder you need to enter a pin to watch something even with pincode off then this won't work yet either.
