I hope someone can help out here because this is one thing that makes the whole MP experience a bit painful.

It's realy slow to:
- queue a whole category of music to play
- show all the movies in a folder on my server

When I call up a similar view in windows explorer or, say, vista media center, both actions happen really quickly.

Am I doing something silly? I tried to queue a folder of music containing a few dozen albums yesterday and the whole applciation came to a grinding halt.

Cheers for any help you can provide.
:D

I have you tried using the database views instead of shares...Note it does require some good ID3 Tag info or folder structures to implement properly though.

Awesome! That's perfect now, I changed the Genre view to just have genre and then album beneath it, and now it works almost exactly the same as it does under vista, and I can queue a whole genre instantly. Excellent!!! This should be the default way it works, as far as I'm concerned, but then I've spent a lot of time organising the id3 information on my collection - so for me that's great.

Thanks for the tip, once again the community comes through.

Throwing in a question here since it fits the subject.

I'm using Mediaportal with myFilms, but when scrolling to a new line in thumbnail view I often get a couple of second freeze before they show up. Is there any way to get a smoother browsing? Will creating a ramdisk and placing the database file and thumbnails in it speed it up?

Over at Meedio someone is working on a Flash-based moviemodule, could that be an idea for Mediaportal?
