Smart card not updating :( (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,

I have an annoying problem that im no sure is MP or Tunercard specific.

I have a Digital devices octopus setup with 2 x dual dvb-c and 1 x dual dvb-s2 and 1 x Ci clot with an Irdeto CI module and smartcard.

All my dvb-c channels are FTA except HD and movie channels. I am therefore subscribing to the HD and its working fine up until the smartcard needs new updates. Somehow that is not happening and the HD channels stops working. When that happens i have to put the ci module and smartcard in my LG television and call my cable provider to resend the updates. Then the channels starts working again and i can move the CI and smartcard back into my MP setup.

I have to repeat this routine every 2 weeks and its really annoying.

Any Ideas why this is happening and how to solve it?

Hi Jacob

At a guess I would say that the Digital Devices driver for the octopus setup doesn't pass some of the required conditional access streams through the CAM/smartcard. Either that or your provider has a stream for providing updates to the CAM/smartcard that the STB knows about but TV Server doesn't know how to deal with. Do you have any other cards with a CI module that you could use to check if they update the smartcard? Did you have the same issues with any previous TV cards?

Thanks for your answer. This is the first time i have tried with a payed subscription so i dont know if it works on other tuner card.

Do you think Digital Devices would know if i asked them the same question?

I don't know, but if I were in your position then I would certainly be contacting them...

Do bear in mind that some subscription suppliers (e.g. Sky UK) do not permit you to use the viewing card outside of the viewing set top box they supply. Make sure you are using the card in accordance with their terms and conditions before you call them.

robbo100: very true. Note that Digital Devices are the tuner manufacturer. They have a reasonably fancy hardware smartcard sharing mechanism, and this issue may very well be a limitation of that mechanism...

My provider just supplies the Smardcard. They do have a settopbox you can use but you are also allowed to use it directly in your tv. I have forwarded my question to DD and I am waiting for an answer from them.
