SOLVED Bitstreaming works on my onkyo 605 but not onkyo 308 :( (1 Viewer)

Hi Guys,

I have a problem that i have not been able to solve and i hope you can help me out.

I have a HTPC with an ATI 5450 connected to an Onkyo 308 in my living room.

and

I have a HTPC with an ATI 5750 connected to an Onkyo 605 in my cinema dedicated room.

Bitstreaming DTS-HD and TRUE-HD with ffdshow passthough has never been a problem in the cinema room but i have never been able to get it to work in the living room even though its almost the same setup

In the living room everything just shows as regulart DTS on the Onkyo 308 and i can tell that ffdshow only also outputs DTS 5.1.

Tonight i finally took the time to hook up my living room htpc to my Onkyo 605 in the cinema room and there you go.... perfect bitstreaming HD audio, so that concludes that everything is set up right on the living room HTPC.

It just does not work on the Onkyo 308. But why oh why.......

The Onkyo 308 is newer that the Onkyo 605 and has hdmi 1.4 whereas the 605 is only hdmi 1.3.

The 308 is only 5.1 channel though whereas the 605 has 7.1 channels. Could that be why an MKV with a 7.1 channel DTS-HD sound track will not play on the 5.1 onkyo 308?


Does anyone have an idea as to what i can do?

It could, not sure. But should be easy to check if 5.1 file works ok (if there are any available ).

Tried that. No difference

The reciever must somehow be telling theATI card that it is not ready for bitstreaming?

I guess im not the only one with the problem. these guys has similar problems but with different setups (not htpc)

If i look in the sound properties in the win7 control panel. it has all the HD formats as supported formats. only difference from when hooked up to the onkyo 605 is that when connected to the 308 it says 6 channels supported whereas on the 605 it says 8.

Are you using the latest catalyst on both computers?

Are you using the latest ffdshow svn?

Just an update.

I tried the EDID override made for sputnink767 in this tread and it solved my problems

obviously ATI on onkyo has some kind of compatability/driver problem.
