Some (only a few) Apple Trailers will not play and then cause MP to hang - for example – The Yellow Handkerchief 720p.mov

Here’s the same section of the log file, for another video (Its Complicated 720p.mov) that does play successfully:-

I can provide the full log files for all the above instances, if that will help?

    Cheers,

Hm plays just fine here. I'm guessing it's codec related.
Playing the local file uses a slightly different graph, so it's not 100% comparable.

Yes, I would agree with you, except that most Apple Trailers play just fine, and they all play fine in MyVideos. Which suggests to me that I have the corect codecs installed (from SAF)?

Why does OnlineVideos use a different graph to MyVideos? Is this likely to be related to codec merits?

It can't, because playing a local file and playing a file from http cannot be done with the same source filter.

The codec settings from Videos are not used to the full extend, but rather merits (by auto connecting the filters).

Thanks for your help offbyone - I found the culprit ... :D

A rogue DirectShow filter (Zulu_aud2.ax) was being inserted into the graph for the files that wouldn't play. I unregistered that filter (it came with the installation one of my TV cards) and now everything works fine ... :D

Can you send me this filter so SAF can disable it automatically?

I have attached the offending DirectShow filter to this post. Actually, there are lots of other DirectShow filters installed with my TV card drivers (even though it is just a DVB-T card) and I am tempted to unregister all of them ... just incase I get other issues.

Oooops, just discovered that you can't attach files of type .ax. Just remove the .doc extension from the attached file and hopefully you will have the correct .ax file ...

hm, i cannot register it here, isnt it Vista/Win7 filter?

BTW, are you sure this filter was used? Acording do description it is "D&M MP2 Encoder", not decoder.

No, it is from a Win XP system.

Yes, it was definitely used - in the audio decoder chain, which is why MP hung. Once I un-registered that filter, everything worked fine.

I am not sure that I would worry about including some "unregister code" for that filter in SAF, as the DVB-T card that I use is quite old (>5years) and unlikely to be used by many people. It is an old Dvico DVB-T card.
