Some MKV files stutter terribly. (1 Viewer)

I have a few MKV's that for some reason stutter (audio and video) to the point that the movie is playing at half-speed or slow-motion if you will. I tried changing video codecs within MP.

They videos play fine in media player but not in MP. Most of my MKV files (720p/1080p) play fine. It sure does look like a codec issue. I use CoreAVC for x.264 and h.264 playback.

I had the same problem with some MKV files. With me it was the problem my hardware HD decoding wasn't enabled (DXVA). My processor isn't the fasted so some MKV files were just too much for it. Some files work without any problem. Maybe is helps to post ur system information? (if it is found inside the logs sorry for that, I have no clue how those work )
I believe windows mediaplayer uses it's own codecs, so not nescessary the same as mediaportal

in combination with MP 1.1.0 beta and Windows 7 64 bit without any issues now.
(I use Cyberlink Video Decoder (PDVD9) for H.264, from the SAF codecs).

I did some research and last night I uninstalled all of my codecs then installed the SAF codecs. I am running 1.0.2 stable and not the recommended 1.1.0 beta which could be my problem. I just don't know.

But...I now can't play VC-1 and some MKV's have audio that is out of sync. I'm sort of worse off than I was before when running NVIDIA for DVD and CoreAVC for HD. I did notice that the MKV's I was having a problem with got better in that the audio was only stuttering now and not the video too!

I'm running a 3Ghz Wolfdale E8500 Intel CPU with 4GB of system memory. Even bandwidth intensive HD like a lossless rip of Transformers plays without a hiccup.

Do you think that upgrading to MP 1.1.0 beta could make SAF codec pack run correctly? I followed the instructions to the letter.

Not sure what to do from here.

Yeah I would install v1.1.0 beta or the new v1.1.0RC1 (not tried yet). A lot of problems are supposed to be fixed in those versions. And then follow the instructions in de SAF tread again. Gl!


ps. a tip for the future is to put in your system specs in your user profile, that is ez for the helpers. Mediaportal is sickly configurable so I bet you will make another help tread someday (I know I will )

Well, I made absolutely no progress today. VC-1 MKV's would no longer play and since it appears that they require a MS codec, I couldn't get it going again.

I really screwed up my system so I ended up restoring an image of my OS partition tonight and I'm back in business.

What I may do is take a clip of the videos that I'm having issues with and see what you all come up with.

In the furture, I will probably go with the SAF codec package but with a clean install.

Thanks for all your help. Its just hard to believe that a movie file that will play fine in WMP, won't in MP and the solution be such an enigma.

I'll update this thread if I find out what the problem was.

I had quite a bit of tinkering to get MKV's playing also, I ended up with a clean w7 install and Shark 007 codecs, but in order to get everything to work I also had to register the matroska splitter from MPC standalone filters using regsrvr32, otherwise any MKV with TrueHD would not play audio at all. Using the shark settings I selected MPC-HC for VC-1 and Microsoft DTV-Video for H264 and the gabest splitter for everything, disabling Halli globally.

So far that seems to have fixed my MKV issues.

Now I wish i could figure out live tv. When viewing live tv after about 2 minutes the video and audio both start to freeze and restart about every 4 or 5 seconds like clockwork. The strange thing is I can record the same file and go into recorded tv and play from there while the file is still recording and it plays without issue.

I am not using rtsp streaming as I have the 4tr plugin for tv with the use ts option selected.

Before throwing in the towel, I actually installed the Shark codecs (vista codecs they are also called I think?) but no go.

I have the nVIDIA Decoder, CoreAVC and FFD which appears to take care of anything I throw at it except a few MKV's that won't play correctly.

I've been able to play most MKV's but I always downgrade the audio. I can't get TrueHD working but would love to! That would be awesome! My Sony receiver would handle it just fine.

Anyway, I may just try and re-encode or convert the videos not working to something that will work but will have to research that as well.
