Hi everyone,

I am about to install the MP software in a client-server environment and I just wanted to share some basic thoughts from my experience of the MP website and structure. This maybe would help for the future.

There is in my mind some confusion about the Mediaportal naming conventions regarding the versions and what needs to be installed. I see sometimes Mediaportal alone with some versioning (V 0.2.0.3, but sometimes also Mediaportal1)

TV server is sometimes named TVengine3. When we are about to download the Tvserver version we are brought to the SVN build pages, but this is not expressedly said that SVN are not compulsory and also probably not stable.

Now that I need to D/L the TV server latest stable release and Client plugin, I do not see clearly a place where I can go... But I have seen somewhere else that there is no stable version yet. So I finally understand that TVserver and TV Server SVN are the same....

Do not let me be misunderstood. You developers are wonderful and do a great job. I am not there to give lessons to anyone... I am a developer and trainer and sometimes I confuse people as well with my explanations. Hence the need sometimes of external people to explain the way they perceive what you do.

Good luck and many thanks for what you have done

    Hey marioleo,

thanks for your input. You are absolutely right. We have problems with the naming of our products. For a sad & simple reason: The team members haven't got the time for all things. Maybe some people of our docs team can take care of that since I think this is a very important point: Try not to loose potential new users by confusing informations.

    Hio marioleo,
Thank you for your valued input on the webpages. This is always welcomed and we do not take offence to constructive critisim/suggestions. I will take this onboard to see how we can clarify it for all users. I was in the same boat as you when I first started with MP with what version to use.

Glad to see you took the dive :)

I had to reinstall completely after my bad adventures with Vista SP1. Since I had to restart from scratch, I was confronted again with some issues that where not in the document I sent you. So if you have trouble with the configuration of your VOO-setup, give me a yell !

    Hello

as my signature states, I did forget something : I am not alone at home and using the VOO digital signal for MP would mean that anyone, including the kids would have to use it for watching TV. So, I finally bought an analog TVcard for use with MP and let the family use VOO directly as before. After spending some bucks in a new PC and new LCD TV , I decided not to further spend money for a second decoder. At least for the moment...

So your guidelines did help. There are some issues of course but they are surely bugs and not mistakes at installation.

One additional pain in the xxx is the fact that service providers change their configuration suddenly. EPG stopped working : it took me some hours to find a workaround, MyWeather stopped as well...

Not to mention that the use of MP is funny but demands some regular maintenance.
