Sometimes Terratec H7 corrupt my recordings (1 Viewer)

Hi,
Sometimes I get corrupted recordings with H7 receiver. Mostly it is working quite fine (only that missing CAM problem, but it is another story) and there is not any errors on logs even when recording 5-6 shows at same time.

There is some tswriter.log showing continuity error through whole recording time. What can trigger this? Signal is measured with pro dvb-c meter and it is really good. I have second cable tuner and two antenna tuners without this problem.

As always, the common causes of continuity errors:

1. Signal quality/strength.
2. HDD stress.

If you're sure the problem is not the first then look at the second.

How full is the timeshift/record HDD?
Do you have any real-time security software scanning the MP or TV Server program, log, timeshift or record folders?
Does the problem only happen with certain channels?
Does the problem happen if the CAM is removed?

There are other rarer causes as well like overheating (HDD, tuner, CAM, other), DPC latency issues (can be an issue with USB drivers)...

There is 350GB free on 1,5TB drive for recording and 160GB free on 1TB drive for timeshifting. All four tuners are set to use same folders. There is other data on those drive too, but not accessed so often and that time when got continuity problems in my example not at all (night time).

There should not be any, but I have to check this.

I have to check those too. I lately changed my cable splitter/amplifier and rearranged the whole system (cabling etc...). All muxes are measured and should be ok.

My server is rebuilded lately to have more cooling. H7 USB driver has some problems with CAM as you might remember. It could have something to do with this too..?

Hi,
Today my wife watched her fav tv soap and ending was quite unwatchable. So it's the time to take this seriously again .
Logs sure show what happened, but I don't know why. Something to do with H7 (tuner 8) for sure. All tuners are set to use new 'pvr only' HDD.

19:26:02 Soap started recording from the dvb-t tuner (9) fine
19:56:10 Second recording is starting from the dvb-c tuner (8)
19:56:14 Tuner 8: Signal is locked (CAM was needed for scrambled ch). Waiting _eventAudio & _eventVideo
19:56:16 Tuner 9 reports first burst of Continuity errors
19:56:20 Tuner 9 reports second burst of Continuity errors
19:56:23 Tuner 8: Start of video detected (Why it took so long and why it triggered endless continuity errors to Tuner 8?)
19:57:20 Tuner 9 is now on bad problems until the soap ends

No they aren't related. They even use different network. I use three USB tuners at the moment:

9 - PCTV Triplestick DVB-T (10 is stick DVB-C part (disabled)
13 - PCTV Triplestick DVB-T (14 is stick DVB-C part (disabled)
8 - Terratec H7 DVB-C (7 is H7 DVB-T part (disabled))

Some info about 'pvr' HDD stress:
- Server PC: These two recordings from SD channels
- Client PC: First recording watching started over LAN at 19:48 via UNC paths

One thing that stands out to me is that all of these are USB tuners.
Are they connected to different controllers?
If not, it is possible that the USB controller/bus bandwidth is insufficient => data dropped/lost => TV Server sees continuity errors (which indicate data is lost).

This is very good point. I checked and they're all connected to the same controller! It didn't came to my mind since I plugged those very separate from each other- Thought they are routed differently then and didn't even check it.
Trying to arrange those on different conrollers and do more testing. Thanks for your notice and time already .
