Synopsis:

I have a 5.1 speaker setup using plain analog signals connected to my PC. I do get sound from every speaker when I watch a DVD, movie or play music. BUT when I watch TV it only plays sound from the two front speakers. Stereo, mono or surround sound regardless, IT SHOULD output at least to my subwoofer too.

One funny thing though. When I start TIMESHIFTING it outputs to all channels. Also when I watch a recoring I've made from TV it also does.

I've tried twiddling around with the Television codecs and settings, but it does not seem to affect anything..

Someone else experiencing similar problems? Any suggestions?

I found this also.

It is a bug in the directsound renderer - not all channels are rendered on some circumstances - even though they are being decoded and definitely reach the decoder.

There used to be a way to select the waveout renderer instead - but now it's removed from the configuration app - but it is still available from the settings screen from within MP itself. Try this - it might work for you.

Personally I moved to using Reclock as an alternate sound renderer and this solved the problem for me.

Note: We're talking about the *renderer* here, not the codec.

HTH,
BigJ.

Thanks for the tip!

Unfortunately switching to waveout didn't work for me..

But I'll try with reclock and report back later!

EDIT: I got it working with ReClock!

Hi,

I've got the same problem kristoffer described in his initial post. I already tried alternative sound renderers like "WaveOut" etc. Also I gave ReClock a try, but nothing leads to a solution.

The are only 2 things which are a bit different to kristoffer:
Also when I switch to timeshift and watch recordings, there is also only sound from the front speakers but no sub, center, rear!

When I watch TV with AC3 sound, the sub, center, rear work great!

MediaPortal is really great and I enjoy everything controlling from my bed, but the missing sub, center, rear when watching TV makes me really sad.
I hope somebody can give me any tips what else I can try, looking forward to your answers!

Solved mine. I could get nothing to work with my onboard AC97 sound card, swapped it for a SB Live and works like a charm. The AC97 would not work with any codec, SB Live works with all.

I have the exact same soundcard. But when I switch to timeshift I get sound from all speakers, if I turn it off I'm back to only right-left front speakers. Would be really nice if there was a solution to this. I will check in MCE if I get the same results.

Otherwise, great work with MP!

I have the same setup as Kristoffer. And I got it to work using the Cyberlink audiorenderer. You should try this.

From memory there was a M$ patch for this.
You also need to ensure the speakers are set to 5.1 under the sound control panel applet.

    Good luck.
