Is there anyway to speed up the Music part. I've been Meedio-user since the beginning, and have always loved the SQL database.

In MP i am also using the database, but hven i return to my artist view (with 2.200 different artist) it's very slow. Is there somehow a way to keep the DB in some kind of ram-drive or something?

Hoping someone to helt, i'm want to give MP a chanc, and i must say that there has been a lot of improvement since i last tried the software (about 7 months ago)

The same here for me. I got ~30000 songs in the db.
When i switch the view from "shares" to "artist" or "all Songs" it takes more
than 10secs before i see something. When i scroll down in the list, the Harddisk
(external USB 2.0 Device) always lit. Why is there so heavy access of the HD when i scroll the list ? I thought the list came from the DB. In this case there would be
no reason to acces allways the HD ? I that the reason for the very very slow
response on large music db's ?

I have no issue with my ~15000 songs. Your HD will be accessed for thumbnails. Please check that your "use mp3 tags from file" (or similar, away from my mp) is unchecked, that slows things down.

You might try a newer svn snapshot, rtv added some new indexes to the db which should hurry things up a bit more.

I never tried the all songs view, which i think is just plain useless with such a large collection.

    Hi mbuzina,

thx for your reply. I tried a svn wich allready should use the new db with
indexes, but no speed up. i am not shure if i had the option with the thumbnails
checked. i will have a look at this later. normally i use the "shares" view, but in
this view i can not search for songs. can i search for songs in the artist view ?
    i've never tried this.

i tested it yesterday. when i am in artist view or album view, i can't search
for songs. to search for a song title i must use the "all songs" view. but when
this allways takes 10 seconds or more, it is not very useable. the new index
function for the db has no noticeable speed increase for me.

OK, Then I do understand the reason for the speed issues:

MP loads all entries for a view synchronously. Loading 30000 items will allways take a long time, because you would have to create 30000 objects in memory etc. But this can be helped by 2 things:
    a) Load the data asynchronously, so you can browse while it is still loading (should be done anyway)
    b) Add an option to search not only in this view, but to search anything in the song. This should be similar to the iTunes search field.

RTV (or anybody else working on myMusic): This would be nice features. I will copy them to the feature request forum as well.

I pick up this old thread again because I have the same problem.

This is my first post here. I have already tried to find an answer, but I couldn't find it.
Let me start to give all the credits to the developers of this perfect software. I'm so happy with it!

Till now I only use MP to work with Music. My PC is "heavy" enough with 2.8Ghz and 2.5 GB

I have not more than 200 folders (CD's) with not more than 3,500 titels in my database. When I start My Music it takes 4-5 seconds before the list with folders appeares. The same when I go back from a folder to the list again. Is this fact of life or are there options to speed this up ?
