Given that the Server and user portions of MP are now separate applications, I'm considering the options in terms of physically splitting these onto separate PC's.

Looking at the PC's required, which end requires the most processing power?

I assume all the recording is done by the server, but where are the time-shift files stored, server or client end?

Would I be right in thinking:

Server
  • TV cards
  • Fast HDD(s)
  • Lots of memory
  • Graphics card irrelevant
  • Would dual-core help, or is that OTT?

"User" end
  • Good graphics card
  • HDD speed / capacity not important
  • Processor/MB not important

(when I say not important, I mean any current run-of-the-mill will do).

Server can be slow. I have a Pentium III 1GHZ with 512MB Ram as a Server and it works fast enough. Graphic is irrelevant.

Client needs definitely a good Processor and graphics card, especially when you want HD contents. More Ram is better, HDD is not important.
