SSD optimization. Use Ram ! (1 Viewer)

Well one of the biggest problems with this is that you don't have enough RAM for a decent timeshift buffer. You can perhaps get away with it on SD content, but HD content is a big no no.

Also the other problem is, if you are running a 32 bit version of Windows (which many are), the user space portion of windows (where applications run) only has 2GB or RAM usable no matter how much RAM you have in your machine (although with boot flags that can be increased to 3GB), and you need to give a large chunk of this to generic applications to run (including mediaportal), so you would only be able to allocate say 1GB for the timeshift buffer, after that it would most likely start paging to disk so you would still have a load of disk writing going on.

With a 64bit installation of windows it will be a more viable option as you don't have the RAM restrictions then (just the cost implications of getting enough RAM into your machine :) ).

A other way to optimize your SSD would be a Serial ATA (RAID) controller like the 100 euro "Highpoint RocketRAID 3120" ore the 150 euro "Areca ARC-1200"
Both have 128MB cache mem onboard to buffer anny overflows you had.

It's not a problem of performance. I have an highend Mtron, it has no freezes like OCZ ones which need Raid card for its cache.

The problem for me is the number of write that are made to the SSD. A Raid card with cache won't change it. In raid 0 mode each SSD would than have only the half of the data to write, but it is still not an ideal solution. Addionaly to that, I have not space to install a second drive.

I dont meen to use the card for speed ore RAID-0 , i meen to use the 128MB cache as a buffer so you wont have writebuffer overflow, because thats whats cossing the problem, the extra speed gain is just a nice extra.

But if you dont have the space for one it realy dossent mather ;)
