Well one of the biggest problems with this is that you don't have enough RAM for a decent timeshift buffer. You can perhaps get away with it on SD content, but HD content is a big no no.
Also the other problem is, if you are running a 32 bit version of Windows (which many are), the user space portion of windows (where applications run) only has 2GB or RAM usable no matter how much RAM you have in your machine (although with boot flags that can be increased to 3GB), and you need to give a large chunk of this to generic applications to run (including mediaportal), so you would only be able to allocate say 1GB for the timeshift buffer, after that it would most likely start paging to disk so you would still have a load of disk writing going on.
With a 64bit installation of windows it will be a more viable option as you don't have the RAM restrictions then (just the cost implications of getting enough RAM into your machine
).
