Thank you for all the help - got it completely working on the laptop (windows 7) and ever got the clients to detect it and watch live TV through it.

I even had time to play around with Server 2008 R2 and get it completely working on there too so my partner can have her laptop back...
XP just doesn't want to work 100% so I think I will look at replacing that machine with a Windows 7 one eventually, but for now on the server it is working great.
It is an attic mounted aerial - all seems to be OK now though.
