I recently installed mediaportal (2 days ago). One of the reasons was that I bought a D-link 320RD, which is suppoused to be able to stream media over a lan. Allthough the D-link worked quite well I stumbled on some issues (couldn´t include the subtitles etc). This got me fed up with all iin one appliances (owned a Kiss DP500 before that).

So when I got my hands on a 2nd hand comp. with a non working PSU, I thought this was my chance on a real MCE. The comp is a P4 2gHz, 512ram, a GeForce 4MX440 etc. After replacing PSU and installing and patching up XP i sunk my teeth in the Mediaportal installation process. I must congratulate ou guys on your documentation. Everything is working like a charm. The only thing I did different was choosing another codec pack that included VobSub. Other then that this was a walk in the park to install. The interface is easy to navigate and im looking forward to tweaking it.

Yesterday I wen´t to base 2 in my MCE-project and bought a HTPC-silverstone LC17 (just the case) and a MCE-remote. It took me all night swaping all the HW from the ol Packard Bell to the Silverstone case. Sadly the PSU-cables are a bit to short so it´s a visit to the seller getting this fixed. Other then that its working. I havent installed the remote yet (todays project), but I have a little Q about it (couldn´t find any post).

Is it possible to put the entire computer in to StandBy with the remote? Is this supported in MP? I wonder this because off course I want a way to turn my MP-mce on and off with the remote. Maybe this is answered in the manual some where but I havent found it yet.

Thanx for a so far gr8 product!

Yes to both questions - this is exactly how I use it.

Some users have had problems getting their motherboards to go in and out of Standby correctly, but this was not a MediaPortal issue. If you strike the same issue, do a search in these forums - there are a few posts on the topic...:)

    TomTom:

Any suggestions? And what might I encounter with this card (is working great so far). Have tested running xvid and DVD. Since I don´t have a proper DTV-b card yet i havent tested running TV through it.

Go for a GeForce FX 5200. They're quite cheap, passively cooled and fully DirectX 9 capable. These things handle MediaPortal very well. Your MP experience will be much smoother and faster with such a card.

About the remote: Yes, this works like a charm; you can even wake up the system from standby by pressing the "PC" button on the remote. I'd recommend hibernation (suspend to disk) as standby mode if possible (you'll have to activate this in your Windows XP power management settings and maybe in the BIOS).

    1. Is the GF6200 just as good (found one that is rather cheap).
    2. Can this explain why my DVD-playback is not working especially good (gets black but I can hear the movie playing).
    3. I have a digital out (expansion to my built in audio card) but i cant seem to get the sound to play through that, any ideas.

Thanx a bunch for all the help.

The 6200 is even better than the 5200, so go for it.
Your problem with DVD playback should have a different reason, though. Could be something with your DVD codec.

    Waltz,

Will try the Codec fixing tonight. Read about it just after I posted the Q =)

Any thoughts on how to get the Digital Audio Signal? This is prob. an XP-thing, but I just can´t find any setting for it. Just to describe it in more detail.

I have a SPDIF connector on the motherboard. On that connector I have hooked up an exp. card (basicly just a card to host the coax connector). I can not see what more there is to it, I have the appropriate driver for the built in audio.

By the way, the MCE-remote (stand by etc) is working like a charm. Only thing that I didnt like was when I put it on again (after std.by) it gives me a logon screen (my auto logon doesent seem to like going back after std-by).

Thanx once again for all your help.
