Status of BluRay playback (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone,

I was wondering about this for a while and hope that someone can shed some light on this:

What is the current status of BluRay-playback using MediaPortal?

I know it can be done using an external application (PDVD7 came with my BD drive e.g.) and wrapping this by using a MP starter for this application (plugins exist for PDVD and TMT). I also read that BD content can be played by using the internal player - only the main feature of the disc though...

What do you guys use to play BluRay content (Software, versions, and means of integrating into MP would be excellent)?

Is full integration of BD into MPs internal player at all possible - will it be anytime soon?

I am aware that at least in part we are talking about problems in terms of encryption/legal etc.

If someone could give a short overview about what the problems are that would be great

Possible, yes... anytime soon, no.

• Decrypting the disk content - MP wont do this
• Blu-ray navigation and menus - requires huge amount of work
• Stream demuxing - not huge amount of work, TsReader is already doing such work for TS

So, if you could give us few developers who are really skilled and want to work with implementing the BD-J etc. then at someday there could be native playback for non-encrypted Blu-ray disks.

I use TotalMedia Theatre retail with Arcsoft plugin(not so shure you need that plugin anymore, but of old habit..) to me this looks almost like integrated in MP, or at least so close it could possible get with an external application.

That was the aim when I did wrote that plugin

Slysoft is working on a freeware HD/Bluray player.
Look at "Official SlyPlayer(tm) Thread" in their forums.
Someone has already requested "Support/Integration into XMBC" - there's a feature request list.
This could be an interesting thing for MediaPortal as well.

Nice, according to [Phoronix] MPlayer Now Supports Most HD-DVD/Blu-Ray Codecs mplayer will soon also support blueray...

So hopefully we will get an even better integration soon or someone can port some codes of these projects to MP

Is it going to be possible in MP2 or is it the same problem there.
