I am a newbie and am having trouble figuring out how to get EPG data. I have asked this question on several other forums on this site but no one has answered, so I will try here.

Can someone please give me step-by-step instructions on how to set up WebEPG in the US? One thing I am confused about is that everyone says the Zap2It site is down. I can still access the website and get guide data. How can I use it?

Or what other sites can I use that are free? I would like to use something other than Schedules Direct, as it is not free. Is it possible to use the Zap2It site? I already have an account, but can not figure out how to get the info into MediaPortal. It is not an option to use the info that comes in with the signal, because it is pretty useless.

Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. I want to use this great program but is pretty useless without guide data.

Thanks!!

The only site in the US currently supported by webepg is yahoo. However, I'm not sure if anyone is using it or if it still works correctly. I assume it still has a limit on how many pages an IP address can load per day, but I think you can get a good guide, if you can get it without going over this limit.

I'm having trouble getting this to work with RC3. The setup instructions say "Make sure there is a TVguide.xml file in the xmltv folder inside the MediaPortal application data folder. ". I don't have one - how does this get created?

    Thanks

    The application data folder is:

    For Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal\
    For Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\

Ahh - ok - I see it now

I've configured WebEPG and executed it. I see TVguide-writing.XML file being created, increasing in size and then being deleted, with the TVguide.XML file changing, just as described in the instructions. The finished file contains what looks like sensible information. But then when I go back into MediaPortal and look at the TV guide or browse channels, it's showing "no data available" everywhere. Is there another step I need to take in order to get this information imported into my EPG?

    Thanks

Yea I've seen inconsistent results, I've setup WebEPG-config.exe and then fired up webEPG.exe and looked inside MP and seen only data for one channel last night (SBS) and then data for one this morning (Ten) but the SBS data wasn't there this morning and the Ten data was "temporarily unavailable". All the channels are configured to grab from yahoo.com so one would assume they should either all work or none. Also - what 'calls' the import? because it only seemed to be working for the channel I was watching at the time, but changing the channel didn't make the new channel data appear.
I'm really confused, does the xml application (downloaded from sourceforge, placed in the xmltv folder relate to the webEPG ?? Or are they two seperate methods of getting data?

I may be making some progress here. I tried activating the xmltv plugin in the TV Server and it looks like it's picked up the file written by WebEPG and updated my TV guide. I'll watch how it behaves for a few days...

I'm still a bit in the dark as to why WebEPG didn't update MP's tv guide, but since the XMLTV plugin seems to happily do that trick I'll persist with that approach. I'll add WebEPG as a scheduled task in windows control panel - once that works I'll try the WebEPG grabber plugin.
