I tested this problem on two computers, with diffrent forceware drivers, diffrents codecs etc etc.
Same result:

I use the dc.exe method for refresh rate changing, but I have encountered a big problem.

If I watch movies with diffrent frame rates in the following order I get very choppy playback.

1. Start a 1080i source...Have MediaPortal change the refresh rate to 59.94Hz
2. Switch to a 1080p (23.976 or 24fps) source...Have MediaPortal change the refresh to 23.976 or 24Hz

Now the playback can become very stuttery.

It seems like the renderer is not refreshed,. or that playback is in a strange state trying to catch the v-sync or frames arriving to late or somthing.

I first thought that this was caused because deinterlacing was not initiated properly. But as I seen this behavior the other way around (going from 29.97fps material to 23.976fps) that can't be the cause.

To fix this you must minimize MediaPortal and interact with another window. Then go back to MediaPortal and the playback is perfect.

A similar stutter can be provoked by jumping back and forth in a movie. Sometimes the stutter start and can be solved by the fix described above.

I have read many posts that confirm this problem by other MediaPortal users. So I don't think my hardware is to blame.

I 'cant figure anything out from the logs attached.

I'm also seeing this, although I hadn't seen the correlation between RR change and this stutter. Anyway, it mostly happens with certain files. Sometimes they start OK, then go into a wild stutter when I fast forward. Sometimes they start with the same manic stutter, and then go smooth when I skip a couple of times back and forth.

I have this same problem too. In order to "fix" it temporarily, I have to open the task manager in windows and then playback goes back to normal. I'm using the latest 1.1.0 beta with the newest SVN (10-20-2009) on Windows 7 x64 and am using ATi Catalyst 9.9s. I'm also using the latest beta of Stand Alone Filters.

I dont know if it's the same issue Im seeing.
    Im running win7 64 ult.
ATI CCC 9.10 drivers on a HD4770 card-

I experience a lot of judder on TV (pal 25 fps) 50hz.

    This occasionally happens when I:

    1) Watch some movie (23.976/24 fps) which changes RR to 24hz (TV supports it, using dc.exe)
    2) Stopping movie, and then starting TV (25 fps), which changes RR to 50hz.

Now all TV channels stutter like mad.
Playback of 24 fps material still looks nice.

    To rectify this I can:
    1) restart MP
    2) minimize MP then click on desktop or some other app, then maximize MP again.

At first I thought it was the avivo deinterlacing settings resetting itself back to defaults.
    But it wasnt

Might this is a problem since the recent fix for 24hz synch playback ?

Might this is a problem since the recent fix for 24hz synch playback ?

I doubt as EVR presenter / renderer doesn't save any state information between playback instances. All settings are reset to default when next playback starts.

Even a new D3D device is generated when next playback is started (or is it?). Please check EVR log to see if the destructor has been run.

The issue sounds like it would be sourced from the MP as restarting it cures the issue. Please try to find a SVN revision that works correctly (if there is such). I'm trying to get 24Hz capable HW in the coming weeks, so I might be able to debug the issue a little bit, but currently I can only guess what is happening, sorry.

    gibman and all

i have similar problems but have a total different setup. i have an asrock 330 with nvidia ion and win 7 32bit. everytime is start mediaportal and start a 24p movie there is heavy stutter. when i make a alt+tab with the task manager the movie runs fine. when i now go to my tv series and want to look a tv show in ntsc it stutters again. so i have to restart MP the alt+tab trick doesen't work here. after that the tv show runs smooth. but i have some short stutters during playback too. they come and go without any interaction. tv is correctly set to 59hz (59.94). when i play the same video with media player 12 everything is fine.

i tried different codecs and settings.
any help would be very appreciated. because i'm running out of ideas. :-(

p.s. at the moment i am using saf 4.00 beta 19 and the latest svn build of MP

I'm having a hard time to reproduce this reliable. My best guess so far is that a refresh rate change is not properly reported/detected by direct show and the player get's some strange time stamps. Just a guess so far. I observed some similar issues with Vista now and then as well. But not reproducible on demand on my box at the moment.

Can you guys who also have this problem please include your logs when this happens?

Don't feel left alone here. As soon as I have some idea what's causing this I can start working on this issue. But first I need to reproduce it on my machine on demand.
