Stuttering HD TV/MKV playback over gigabit network - local client ok (1 Viewer)

I am looking for some general advice - my client/server machine is working great, and I have 2 other clients in my home connected to a gigabit switch with cat 6e cable.

On the clients (one is a core i3, the other an amd x2) they work great with SD video and tv, but for HD there is often glitches or stutters in the playback.

I am using windows 7 x64 on each machine, and using standard windows 7 codecs with divx installed to handle mkv. This works fine on the main box and if I copy the offending files to the machines locally they playfine, so I believe this is network related.

I am using the default network settings in windows 7 - is there anything I should force to optimise the speed of the network on all machines?

You can try to set 1.0 Gbps Full Duplex instead of auto negotiation in advanced properties on the driver(Speed and Duplex). I had to do that on a Gigabyte mobo i have, since the auto negotiation sets down to 10Mbps on heavy load for some weird reason.
