Hi

I'm hoping someone could take a look at my logs and determine whether its a signal issue with my dish? If I reboot the server the problem instantly goes away and everything plays fine with no stuttering but the stuttering always comes back after about 2 days and only goes away after a reboot. I am using MDapi but I had this problem before that (its a recent addition :) ). The only common feature between my server and the old single seat, that is now a client is the satellite dish, hauppauge cards and tb drives. The ssd is a new one and I upgraded mp to 1.6 but it was the same on 1.4. & 1.5. The problem is only related to live tv. Skipping back makes no difference the tv still stutters.
The spec of my sever is intel quad core Q6600 2.4Ghz with 4GB of ram, a 120 ssd where the streaming files are written too, a 1tb drive for tv recordings, 2tb drive for tv series and 3tb for movies. I have 2 hauppauge win nova dvb s2 cards and a bgt dvb-t2 card. Running windows 7 and TV server 1.6.

I have had all of this in a single seat setup and got the same stuttering after a few days. So I moved it all to a server in the hope it was a compatibility issue with my P8z77-vx 1155 socket motherboard, i5 3570k etc... So that computer is now a client in the lounge and I also have one in the bedroom.

Using latency monitor on the server this shows ataport.sys as an issue & ndis.sys. But again if I reboot its a couple of days until the stuttering and latency issues return.

If I use just the dvb-t2 card even when I have stuttering on the dvb-s2 satellite cards I have no issues with stuttering!
I installed dvb viewer and it also stutters, but I have only tried it after I have seen stuttering in mptv.

Its driving me crazy!!! Looking at previous posts I have seen mention of poor signal eventually crashing tv server or related drivers. my quality is 94% and 52% strength.

Shift +1 on the main client shows fluctuations in the frame rate but its perfect when i have rebooted the server.

Watching films, tv series is fine as is music and pictures.

Looking at my logs can anyone shed any light on this?

Jonny

    Hello Jonny

Nobody will be able to tell you that with certainty. We can only say whether that might be possible. From the continuity errors in your TsWriter log, it is certainly possible... but it could also be HDD stress or overheating components.

If I reboot the server the problem instantly goes away and everything plays fine with no stuttering but the stuttering always comes back after about 2 days and only goes away after a reboot.
So maybe you should investigate the overheating option. Blackgold cards are very compact and need good airflow to ensure they don't get too hot.

I am using MDapi but I had this problem before that.
Understood. It is equally a problem that you're using a custom version of TV Server. The above is all I can tell you with any confidence. You're going to have to investigate further for yourself or get support from the person who provided your version of TV Server.

I completely understand, the problem is only related to my freesat cards. The BGT card is fine and if I switch to viewing the freeview channels they are perfectly fine. The stuttering happens on both freesat cards (Hauppauge) not the freeview bgt card. So I thought this would rule any potential over heating problems?

I have had the same problem before on standard mp so I know my problem is not with the djblue custom version or the fact i'm using mdapi, but I take on board what you are saying and if needs be I'll go back to standard software for further testing.
I have bought two new hauppauge freesat cards and I put them in on Saturday evening its normally around about two days later I get the stuutering so I'll keep checking it and let you know how I get on.

    Cheers

    Ok So an update....

I changed both freesat Hauppauge cards for new ones and it lasted for a record 4 days without stutter :) and just when I thought I had cracked it, it came back. So I got a new dish fitted and cable and no difference, after 2 days the stuttering came back.

The only differences I can think off are: I am on windows 7 sp1 and TV server 1.6. Where as I'm sure I used to run without SP1 installed and obviously an older mp install. Could it be the Hauppauge drivers? I am using the latest ones, could it be those?

I have also moved the timeshifting folder from my SSD to another drive but I got the same results.

Oh and the new dish saw an improvement in signal strength the level is now 65 and quality is 94% still.

Can anyone help? I am losing the will to live and the wife has mentioned going back to sky and actually paying for TV :(

    Thanks in advance
    Jonny

Sorry Jonny - I'm not able to help further. Not without log files, and not while you're using the configuration you are/were using with the last set of logs.
