Hi,
just setting up my popcorn replacement. and i seem to be having a little trouble with playing certain high bitrate 1080p movies.
anything over 15gb seems to stutter in mediaportal but windows media player plays them fine.
ive tried all the codec options in the latest SAF, ive also tried coreAVC and the windows decoder that comes with windows 7.

all of them stutter in mediaportal. what can the problem be. ive plugged a external hdd in to make sure bandwidth isnt a issue.

any ideas?

Do you watch those full HD movies on a TV with full HD resolution -> means are your graphic settings 1920x1080?

If yes, then your Nvidia 8200 has not enough power for DXVA decoding, even a 8300 can't take it. Your CPU will also not be sufficient if you try to do it without DXVA.
Buy a bigger one like Nvidia 9500 (there are passivly cooled on the market), or try a Clarkdale, or wait for Sandy Bridge.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

Im struggling to understand why you say my motherboard with IGP isnt powerfull enough to play 1080p movies. Nvidia actually advertised this board as a multimedia blueray system. all the reviews e.g. bit-tech raved about the board being able to play 24p 1080p movies and use 7.1lpcm audio through hdmi. As for as I can see there board is far more powerful than required.

    http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/motherboards/2008/05/20/jetway-jnc62k-geforce-8200-mini-itx/8

I actually fixed the problem by removing SAF. thats its. now i can play every movie without any problems. I used CoreAVC for h264 video (windows codec works fine too) and ffdshow for audio (7.1 lpcm)

my cpu never goes above 30%. its rock solid,

I even tested my large mkv's in VLC and they run smooth and thats without DXVA.

Cause i have 2 boards with nvidia 8300, and it had not enough power for me to handle full hd with dxva.

Interesting as I have a 2 x 8200 based nvidia motherboards (1 x itx and 1 matx) and a 9300 intel based (zotac 9300 itx). All of them playback dxva and none dxva without any problem at all. I even have a acer atom 3610 (2gb version) and that plays the same movies back perfect (dxva only)

Ive tried a copy of avatar at 45gb last night and it played on the 8200 board with no problem at all.

The boards are designed with HD in mind. I suggest looking at your config?

    NVIDIA GeForce 8200 mGPU

I just can tell you about my experiences. 8300 simply didn't work for me, i am using a 9500gt now -> no more issues with that.
Are you sure you tested the boards with a full hd TV/Monitor attached -> so that your graphics really display a full hd screen resolution?

...Dont always believe what the advertisment is promissing... design for HD was in the past not always what you would expect :)

The HTPC is plugged into a denon avr-1909 amp, which is connected to a sony KVL-40V4000 40" 1080p LCD. When i play a movie the TV displays the media type at 1080p/24

My screen resolution in windows 7 is 1080p at 24hertz.

I play the mkv of avatar and the cpu hits 31% max, usually hovering round 24%. If I view the media information inside the mkv container I get the video info

    Source H264/AVC
    Resolution : 1920x1080
    Framerate : 23.976 FPS

Ive used xbmc too and that plays everything excellent too. In my case, it was just the fact I tried the SAF codec pack instead of setting up the htpc the way i setup my other htpc's.

ok, do you get lost frames during your stutter?

When it was stuttering it wasnt a loss of frames, it looked like it was struggling with the decode.
But like I previously mentioned, since uninstalling the SAF Codec Pack, i havent had 1 problem, everything works fine.... well apart from the dvd playback, but thats in my other thread,

i find codecs play a HUGE part (at least for me) when smoothness is required

i use halli's matroska splitter, coreavc 2.0 and SAF 5(ffdshow)

    check my sig
