Subtitles from MKVs (1 Viewer)

Hi all. I have one particular TV show "Darker than Black" encoded in 720p H.264 in MKV containers with subtitles. When played in MPC or VLC, the subtitles show fine. In MediaPortal, they will not show up. They are obviously found as I can select the subtitle stream while it is playing but they do not show. MKV movies with contained subs as well as regular DivX/XviD movies with SRTs are fine - it just seems to be TV shows with this plugin.

Any ideas?
Thanks!
Simon

To anyone that sees this thread I found the answer myself. I removed all my codecs, installed only the CCCP and CoreAVC. The key to making subtitles work with this plugin was to tick "Autoload VSFilter (WMP & MCE Support)" as in this screenshot.

Yes, and if you're not using CCCP, (or even if you are and want to know exactly what that setting does) just go into the Haali settings, and under "compatibility" change "Auto Load VS Filter" to yes.

    Hello,
I had the same problem with movies and the "Auto Load VS Filter" solved the problem. However, when I try to load series with MyTv the subtitles won't work. Does anyone know how can I solve this problem?

Just to complete the information....the subtitles are separate .srt file, such as the movies that work, but the mkv doesn't have any subtitle file embedded. When I open the file in the media player classic the subtitles are correctly shown.

    Thanks

    Hello,

Justo to say I got my problem solved. The only difference between the new mkv and the old ones I have are the subtitle file embedded. So I deactivated "Auto Load VS Filter" and activated the postprocessing vobsub filter and solved all my problems.

Download the directshow vobsub filter here and install. Then in mediaportal configuration go to movies and select post processing and activate the directshow vobsub filter by double clicking. This should do the trick, at least it did for me.

Hmmm that is curious. I use nothing but embedded subtitles with my mkv's, and all I have to do is enable autoload VS filter in Haali and it works perfectly. I have never had to enable post processing in mediaportal with embedded subtitles. Not sure if this statement is applicable to the external subtitle scenario.

Are you sure you don't have an old version of vobsub installed with something like Gordian Knot? I know this can cause problems. Very important to make sure you only have vsfilter installed (which is the replacement for vobsub).

I checked and I really have only vsfilter installed. I only use external subtitles and the only difference I detected between the ones that worked and those that didn't was the embedded subtitles.

Post processing should be avoided as much as possible.
This in effect will always force VSFilter into the graph whether there are subtitles or not.
I have done numerous fixes for subtitle handling so ravenj your issues should now be resolved.

VSFilter not loading was probably due to an EVR filter compatibilty problem.

    Hello dman_lfc

Thanks for your work but where can I find your fixes for subtitle handling? I installed MP final version and the problem still remains.

    Best regards
