I hope someone can help me..
I am in the process of ripping my entire DVD collection into .mkv format using AutoMKV.
Picture quality is awesome and i have surround 5.1 working as well.
My only problem is subtitles. Can someone help me getting them to work ? I am using CoreAVC as my decoder and i can select different subtitles during playback but they do not show on the screen.

NOTE : I have managed to get them working if i use ffdshow as playback decoder, but i want to use CoreAVC because the picture is noticeably better than ffdshow.

    thank you

I've never heard anyone preferring CoreAVC over ffdshow for video quality but of course you can use them both. CoreAVC for decoding video and ffdshow to just add the subtitles.

In MediaPortal Configuration/Movies/Movie Player choose CoreAVC as H.264 Video Decoder. In Movie Post Processing add ffdshow raw video filter OR ffdshow subtitles filter. When playing the movie be sure to have subtitle checked in ffdshow's settings.

Thanks for that. I'll try tonight after my sons christening.
I find the colours of my mkv files better with CoreAVC . With ffdshow they seem dull and flat..
i will post if your solution works or not..

    cheers

Subtitles can be tricky, whats working for me with mkv files and coreavc and subtitles (both subs contained in mkv file and as .srt file) is using DirectVobSub filter (or VS filter) cant remember what its called nowadays, and adding it as a post-processing filter in mediaportal configuration. I have haali mediasplitter installed and the option wich is "preload vsfilter" or something set to Yes. Only thing that doesn't work for me is mixing of both srt and subs contained in the file, but that is somewhat a minor problem.

This is what I did for subtitle work properly

In MediaPortal Configuration/Movies/Movie Player choose CoreAVC as H.264 Video Decoder. In Movie Post Processing add "ffdshow Video Decoder" to the list in the top. That's all, subtitle with CoreAVC should work now.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

I still have the issue that embedded subtitles in (HDTV) MKV are shown in black color. See threads https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/general-support-51/changing-subtitle-colors-26462/ and https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...irectvobsub-embedded-subtitles-mp4-avc-33302/

Any idea how to solve this. Are you guys experiencing the same. .srt files are shown the right way (color=white) the problem only occurs with subtitles embedded in MKV containers.

I use powerdvd 7 as h.264 codec, tried selecting ffdshow, but issue is the same..

What version of MP are you using? I began to have problems with subtitles with MKV when I migrate to v1.0RC1, but I have never test subtitles in MKV.

    I'm on MP I RC1 SVN 19311
I guess it should be something outside MP, some codec setting, that's causing by MKV integrated subs to appear in black color.
