Just installed this little mediacenter but cant get any mkv's to be played. Works outside MP, works if a setup VLC as external player for MP.. But not with the internal player.

Also a fw HR xvids plays upside down, they dont outside MP.. Weird!

Got all codecs needed...

What to do!

Fixed..

Well... it seems not, since it is not working...
There really is now way for any of us to help you without more info:
-What codecs do you have installed?
-Full system specs..
-What codecs did you select in MP setup?

.MKV works fine for me, I use Haali Media Splitter, PowerDVD and AC3 filter.

    Hi, all
somehow, I tried everything to get the mkv file working under MP.
However, the file plays fine with WMP Classic, and VLC.
    My codec combination is:
    PDVD 7.3 ultra
    installed Haali media splitter

When I try to start the file in MP I just get a black box/screen, but no file is showing (also no timestamp info).

I just don't kow what to do.....

please help, see my specs in "My system"

    cheers

    Hi,
I just found out a strange thing (bug?):

The File plays, but only when started from the directory-structure-view of MyVideos!
It will not start when the view is set to Movie.

Still its not perfect, thoug, because the Picture looks like "solarized" , i think there might be something wrong with the codec, even though all the other files play really well.

    have you guys any hints?

    cheers

I use the same codecs as you, but I alos have FFDShow.
    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm
PowerDVD on my system is only used for HD stuff...

Try GrapEdit (use remotegraph with MP playing a file) to see what codec is use in MP and see wich codec is use in MPC....
I think you will find that both programs are not using the same codec...
You can force the PC to use a certain codec by changing the MERIT with a program called GSpot.
Sometimes a totally wrong codec is used in MP.

I usually lower the merit of just one: the codec used in MP (just lower it a little under the one you want to be used) and then try again...
Takes a little time but if you change too mutch at once I get lost...

does your powerdvd h264 codec have dxva on?

its a known issue it really cant decode much of the .mkv x264 stuff and just results in a black screen

i just installed the k-lite codecs and all is well. i had previously installed haali media splitter and still could not play any mkv files thru MP (on two htpc machines running rc 2), but thru windows media player/vlc worked fine.

so k-lite codecs solved the issue for me. hope this helps someone else.
