I would say that support for MS SQL Express was stopped at the 2005 level and was no longer developed. As well as support for MySQL5. The only thing that has been added since then is mod support for current versions of MySQL and MariaDB (in my opinion, the current database for TV Server today). Changing the dependency is not difficult, but how it will work, no one knows.

Please see my response to your post in the 1.39 thread. I don't find any announcement about MP discontinuing support for MS SQL 2005, but the installation dialog as of 2008 said that 2005 was disabled, because SQL Server 2005 was no longer supported as of Windows 7. Even if I am mistaken about that, MS has already stopped support for all versions prior to SQL Server 2015, which will end soon. MS has already removed documentation for 2015 from its website. I have therefore added corresponding comments to the wiki pages for SQL 2005 and 2008. The changes I am asking for should work for all currently supported versions of SQL Server.

Maybe we can check which service is running?
Unfortunately here (at my test windows 7 machine) I have it running as "MYSQL" so I'm not easily able to check things

In my opinion, this part should be completely rewritten, it is so inconvenient.
true, but its kinda hard with not that much testers and even for me still running on win 7 :(
In the end, the gains should be more than the efforts and I doubt a bit that is going to be the case here

If we want to rewrite, we need to rewrite everything, from the server to the client. I'm afraid we won't have enough strength.

I'm happy to test, but I can only test the setup and the playback of existing recordings in the DB.
My TV tuner is on strike since I upgraded to 1.38, so I have no TV Guide from which to add new recordings.
