My setup: TV Server on win 7 64, attached to Denon AVR-1909 surroundsoundreciever via HDMI for both picture and sound.

My problem is that 5.1 sound does not work. Either the Denon says "Stereo" or sometimes "multi ch.... something". In both cases the result is stereo. The reciever should say: "Dolby Digital" as it does when I use my old DVD player.

I am not sure how to fix it.

    What I have done:

In MP under Codecs and renderer I have tried different settings on the MPC - MPA Decoder. Now it is set to 3 front+2 rear. I would have assumed that the sound should just be passed to the surroundreciever without any processing, but I can't find any options for that.

I am not really sure about how these codecs are working and when, so it is probably something here that is the problem.

On Windows controlpanel/sound, I can see the Denon and have set it up as 5.1.

I can't find any other settings in Windows or MP.

    Hi Habanero

I think the issue is that you have set the codec MPC - MPA Decoder to decode the signal, i.e. it is taking the digital siganal and changing it to a analogue one to output through your PC speakers. You need the signal passed to your Denon AVR-1909 as a digital signal, not decoded so that the receiver can decode the signal to analogue and output it through the speakers attached to it. It looks like MPC - MPA Decoder can pass a digital signal to a receiver using S/DIF, but it doesn't mention HDMI.

I use LAV to pass-through the signal via HDMI to my receiver from the SAF pack of codecs. ffdshow can do the same. I think the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder and Cyberlink PDVD may be able to do the same.
