Suspend / Resume Problem... (2 Viewers)

When the server hard drives are accessed for the first time AFTER resuming from standby, the server will hang for about 15 seconds and comes good again.

All the hard drives are connected to my SATA controller cards, which for some reason need to be re-initialized or woken-up during this 15 second pause.

This causes problems for scheduled recordings, as TV Server will try to record but can't during the pause period.


Now, what i would like to do, is have PowerScheduler re-initialize the SATA cards when the server wakes up so that the drives are ready for recording.
The problem is that i have no idea what service to re-initialize.
The other way to do it, is to have PowerScheduler run a short background process which requires the hard drives to "activate".

Any ideas ?? Anyone ??

Sorry dude, dunno about your h/w configuration but the drives should be one of the first devices to kick in.
I would harrass your SATA controller vendor for a driver solution.

Thanks dman.. The drives actually kick in ok. The problem is that the SATA cards seem to stay asleep until an application requires access to the drives.

The 2 controllers are made by Adaptec but sold as HP 2610SA 6 port SATA RAID controllers.
Drivers are no longer available beyond 2004.
I would gladly ditch them for something more recent, but i can't seem to find any 6 port SATA controllers.
Raid fucntion is not required. I am only using them because i have no spare SATA ports on my motherboard.

How about the TVGUIDE.XML or tell music share watcher to monitor them?

Thats pretty much what i had in mind... having an application access the drives .

Problem is that i have no idea what/how to do it..

I think the problem is more related to using a server architecture which is not designed for standby & resume.
That is likely outside of the test criteria of any enterprise SATA RAID controller and driver development.

I was just thinking about moving your TVGUIDE.XML file there, so that MP will look on that drive for tv guide updates every time it starts up.

You are correct there dman.. I am using equipment that is not designed for standby / resume.
Problem is, that i have 13 hard drives in this server, and i need SATA cards. If anyone can suggest another 6 port SATA card i would gladly replace them.

Thats a thought... I would try it, but i have also recently discovered that the whole standby / resume fucntion doesn't work very well at all..

Depends on the types of PCI slots in your Server. There are numerous SATA controllers around up to 12 SATA ports.
I still think you'll have the same issue though as server's aren't built for standby & resume.
