Is anyone else experiencing problems getting their Windows 7 MP 1.2.1 installation to go to sleep (S3 state) using their MCE remote control? I have recently upgraded from MP 1.1.3 (without Win 7 SP1) to MP 1.2.1 (with Win 7 SP1) and now it takes about 3 attempts to get the PC to actaully turn off. What happens on the failed attempts is that the screen fades to black as usual but then it just stays like that - black screen, no sound, no picture but PC still running! If i hit the green button or power button on the remote control then MP immediately springs into life like it was always running in the background.

Also please don't shoot me down for not attaching logs (as usual)! Surely i can just ask the basic question and see if i get answers?!

Cheers
Lee

Sure, but if you just want to ask "basic questions" please don't post in the support section of the forum. We are meant to provide support for threads posted here...

I am of course looking for support for my problem (it is still playing up). I can never remember how to extract logs so thought i'd start by asking the question first - someone could easily reply and say "yes i had that and i fixed it by doing....". But it seems that unless you attach logs you are treated like an outcast on this forum ;-)

I will figure out how to do it and then attach logs. I'm convinced it's some form of bug as it only appeared after installing MP 1.2.1...

You are not treated as an outcast, it is just near impossible for people to help you without the logs. Your problem could be caused by hundreds of different problems, and even if someone had a similar problem to you, it is likely to be caused by a completely different problem. The Devs are very busy (with real-world jobs/families, as well as other MP work) and it is a waste of their time having them speculate as to what your problem might be from a general description and no actual evidence, especially when generating logs is so simple to do. Posting logs is the ONLY way that the Devs can help you efficiently and accurately, so please don't take the request for logs as a personal attack, but as an offering of the best help!

There is a sticky thread at the top of the General Support page (MediaPortal Forum - Announcements in Forum : General Support) which tells you exactly how to run MP in debug mode and generate logs with just a couple of clicks of the mouse. I tend to note down each step by step action I make (with a time) when running in debug mode to help the Devs work out what event happens when. For example:

12:10 - ran MP in debug mode
    12:12 - Tested TV BBC1
    12:13 - Stopped TV
12:15 - tried to send PC to sleep
12:17 - Quit MP after system hang.

The support here is excellent, but you need to help the Devs help you.

How to extract logs is described in my footer. But probably you have experienced "Away" mode. If you suspend your htpc while it is still recording or streaming, it will not suspend the system, but enter away mode (screen is blank, audio is off). Unfortunatly MP recignizes its own TV stream as streaming as well. Try to remap the power button to "Stop", "Stop" & "Suspend".

    Otherwise please some logs.

mbuzina - thanks for your post. I did think that it could be this 'away' mode, but then i thought this was only available with the 'alternative' Powerscheduler plugin. The symptoms i described in my 1st post are only associated with the power button on my MCE remote (after stopping live TV and immediately pressing the power button, it usually takes 2 or 3 attempts to get it to suspend). If i leave MP on Home screen for my 10mins set in Powerscheduler then PC enters suspend mode 100% of the time.

I will investigate this 'away' mode and report back WITH LOGS if i'm still stuck!

Would appreciate confirmation that the 'away' mode does exist in MP 1.2.1 even with the standard built-in Powerscheduler would be nice though. If it does then i have no doubt that this is what my 'problem' is. In which case i guess i need to re-map the power button on the MCE remote...? Surprised no one else with Win 7 has seen the same thing and commented.

Yes it happens 99% of the time when try to force S3 state via the remote control power button. Audio disappears, screen fades to black but PC stays on. So then i wake it up again (RC power button or green button usually) then hit the power button again. I sometimes have to repeat this 3 times before the "£$^$% thing suspends! Don't particularly want it sitting there consuming power overnight and during the day when no one is home. Problem has appeared since upgrading from MP 1.1.3 to 1.2.1. I'm all in favour of stopping the PC from entering suspend from accidental press of the RC power button whilst doing something 'essential' like recording, which is a problem that Windows 7 introduced. But when it's not recording, i want it to suspend when i ask it to!!

I will check out MST and other options assuming i don't have a bug in my system.
