Being in BrowseMedia and switching to "LocalView" makes MP2 crash every time. Nothing in Logfiles, so I attach the message from VS2013:

I can confirm this. The switch leads to an endless loop so MP2 could not even be killed in Task manager.... Need to reboot to get rid of this.

There is something really wrong, most plugins also cause crashes, that I have not seen before. Will report them separately after this is clarified. Perhaps the root cause is the same or similar.

Do you have removable media attached (USB sticks, digital camera, CD, DVD...)?

The reason is, that inside the local media navigation there is a check for such devices, all of them will be processed by the metadata extractors to determine the "media type". You are then asked to playback of different kinds (i.e. "play video", "play images").

Unfortunately exactly this detection does run over ALL items/folders and this can take ages :( And that's the reason for the timeout of WF manager.

This is a conceptual issue which was never resolved later (I remember discussions with Alber about this). So for the detection of media type it would be enough to find few items, and not all.

Please check this first, there could be other reasons of course.

Should "removables" be selectable, i.e. users have the possibility to not scan such media?

What ideas are there? We could for example temporarily remove the scanning of removable media.

In principle we have to reduce the detection to a reasonable amount, so it knows about the "media type" (DVD, Audio CD, mixed medium). But after this step we would still need some fast way to add all items to a playlist later. And this involves again metadata extraction of all items in medium.

Today the process of reading file information from fixed paths "feels" dynamic. Is it envisageable to have removables run in a separate parallel thread, which keeps adding information and so the mains system would not run into time-outs?

    Ok.

Switching from library to local view also tries to navigate to same position (IIRC). And all "browsing" then runs through all files and MDEs to show next screen (folders, items). This can take long (it does nearly all steps the server importer does).

How many media sources you have created?

    Hi.
How many media sources you have created?
10 in total, about 5 or 6 on local disks, the rest is on network drives.

I have 6 USB Disks attached to my system, all of them are already part of some media sources. They are not assigned to the sources with drive letters, only with junctions. I can not use "Local view" at all in the current state? No big deal, I never use it in real live, had done this only for testing today. But this nevertheless has to be fixed somehow...
