Sasler,

you have a error in your log: "VideoPlayerVMR9: Exception while cleanuping DShow graph - Object reference not set to an instance of an object.".

Please review all MediaPortal requirements and if this doesn't fix update to the latest SVN and report back if fixed or not.

Simone

Yes my system meets the requirements and I have the latest SVN, but it still has the same problem :(

OK, I'm able to repeat the error using WMP. It seems that this problem has nothing to do with MP.

I've uninstalled all codecs and although (obviously) it does not play any of the video files, I do get the same results. That is, the System process uses one of the CPU cores 100% and I can't even restart from Windows.

Maybe there is still some codecs hiding

How could I correct this problem (I'm not looking forward to a Windows reinstall)?

Are you fully upto date with windows updates, are you using a amd x2 processor.

Yes.. it was before I straited to reinstall XP. :p

But I believe that I might have found the reason for my problems: ffdshow AC3 (S/PDIF encode mode)

When reinstalling everything I was checking with WMP those x264 files after every step and once I clicked in ffdshow audio decoder configuration - Mixer Output - AC3 (S/PDIF encode mode), I got the same problem back

But simply uncliking it removed the problem :p

Turns out my system reinstallation is a waste of time

Anyway, since I want to use AC3 (S/PDIF encode mode) I wonder what should I do? First I have to install MP and see how it affects it...

OK, I found the guilty party. It was the Realtek AC97 sound driver. I had updated all the other drivers, but somehow I missed the sound driver  . By using the latest driver from Realtek all problems got resolved :) .

Now AC3 through S/PDIF works fine and I can play stop and play an other video file without restarting the computer :D

A big :D for everyone for their help
