    Hi,
Wonder if anyone else has seen this. Some BBC-HD programs have two audio tracks, the first (default) contains a spoken commentary describing what is on screen. The second (with a name of AC3:Eng) seems to be the normal sound track. It's easy to switch to the AC3 track when watching a program, but I wanted to make this the default action, so I set the options in the audio tab of my tv to set the AC3 track to be preferred. However after doing this my up until now very stable system has become very unreliable. Trying to start playback of a recording with these audio streams, often results in just audio, no video. Stopping and re-starting the same program results in my PC re-booting. Switching the audio settings back to the default restores everything back to the rock solid way it was before...

I don't currently have logs for this, but will post some as soon as possible....

    Andy

PS One of the programs that seems to have this soundtrack setup is Bonekickers....

    Hi Andy,

Did you ever manage to solve this problem you had ?

    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...-reboots-bbc-hd-ac3-streams-43601/#post292496

I cant seem to find anyone else with this problem.

Have almost the same problem, when I start a BBC HD recording, about 50% of the times it works, otherwise it crashes with the Microsoft "send report" screen and all hangs.

I use Asus P5N7a-VM + XPSP3 + PDVD9 + FFDSHOW, also tried SAF5, on 2 similar client systems and both have exact the same problem, You upgraded since to ? , did it help ?

    Hi Set3

This thread is *really* old. Probably best to start a new thread in future...
    Can you post logs please.

    Thanks mm1352000

Yes I was in doubt, but I have another client system without any problems, same version MP, so the recorded files are ok, and display fine.

It is really no new bug :)
    Could be driver/OS/HW ?

Just hoping GloomyAndy solved it :)

Ill PM Gloomyandy to notify him on this.

    Hi,
Well I did fix it or rather I made it go away! New versions of MP, new codecs, new operating system (windows 7), new hardware (different graphics card and dvb-t tuners)... No longer have this problem! Not a lot of help I suspect sorry!

I have this problem on two of my systems that have NVidia cards, but my AMD / ATI pc does not have the issue.
The NVidia systems don't have the same OS, one is XP while the other is win 7, please note that the error does not happen if DXVA is turned off (not using HW decoder) or any other HD channels apart from BBC HD or BBC 1 HD.

The only codec I have got to work well with DXVA on is Arcsoft Video Decoder.

    i have tried the following : -

    Powerdvd 10, 9, 7 (7 works but is software)
    FFDshow DXVA
CoreAVC (this looks crap with live interlaced shows)
Divx H264 Decoder (works well in software)
    MPC - Video decoder

There may be a few more but cannot remember.

Set3, try the Arcsoft codec, please note that you may need to jump a couple of times 15sec forward or back to stop the blocky picture.

    Quake505,
Yes exactly the issue, only BBC1 HD and BBC HD ( not sure about ITV1HD though). using PDVD9 ( BBC are delivering the sharpest HD images I must say, others are less sharp)
So not worth to spend money on upgrade to W7 then, good, saved me some money !!
Your " jump a couple of times " does not give me much confidence either :).

Ill play around with a few of your tips, see what happens.
Perhaps disable HW decode is an option indeed, see if the PC can handle that, Duo core 2.8GHz, according to min req it should.

    Thanks !!

Quake505: I'm uncertain what you mean when you say "this problem".
The orignal problem reported in this thread relates to audio.
The second problem in this thread relates to recordings not starting.

Are you both 100% certain that turning DxVA off solves whichever problem you're talking about?
Problems with audio are more likely to be related to codecs or TsReader/TsWriter. If turning DxVA off seems to help then I wouldn't be fiddling with codecs - I'd be upgrading my video card drivers first.
Problems with recordings not starting are definitely *not* related to codecs as codecs aren't used unless the stream is being watched. That would mean DxVA has nothing to do with it.

Whichever problem you're referring to, would someone please post logs...

I have to retract my last post regarding Windows 7, it maybe because I have changed/upgraded the audio codec or upgraded the NVidia drivers since the last test, but the Microsoft DTV-DVD video decoder works well with BBC HD and BBC One HD.
    Sorry for the mistake.
