Hi folks,

I have recently turned to MediaPortal for my HTPC and am having issues with the TV tuners.

Some background:
I have two Technisat Airstar 2 PCI tuners (bought from DigitalNow) and both tuners worked fine in linux when I was using MythTV. I wanted to switch to Windows as I was having too many other issues with MythTV :)

So I installed XP pro and did the MCE2005 update. Set up MediaPortal.. and all works well except for the TV part.
My results using some driver versions are:

1) 4.4.1 SkyNet (non BDA)
- both cards are in Device Manager as Network devices (no conflicts)
- mediaportalconfig only sees one of the cards
- mediaportalconfig can scan for tv channels.. finds a decent amount.
- mediaportal mytv almost always reports no signal when trying to view the channels
- dvbviewer (program that comes with the technisat drivers) scans and find channels. can actually watch TV maybe 3 out of 10 times I try... sometimes when it works it is quite stuttery.

2) 4.4.1 SkyNetBDA driver
- both cards are in Device Manager as Sound/Media devices (no conflicts)
- mediaportalconfig can see both cards but sees them as DVB-S cards and so I can't do the autotune thing or find channels
- mediaportal also BSOD's and restarts my computer when I run mediaportal mytv
- dvbviewer works about 3 out of 10 times (like above).

I also tried some older drivers (4.1.1) but had similar experiences.

I am not sure if this is related to having two cards.. as I have tried to disable one in Device Manager.. this had little difference.

Does anyone have any advice.. which drivers should I be using.. and how can I overcome these issues? I know this is not totally mediaportal related (???) but I am hoping someone out there has had experience with this kind of setup. I am not too fussed if I only am able to use one card.. i just want to be able to watch TV!

Just ask and I can provide more info if I have missed something out which you think is important.

Cheers,
woopsicle

Hi woopsicle

I don't have an answer for you but I am in the same boat. I too am a recent MythTV convert and like you this card worked fine over there. I have had no luck in 4 days of trying to get this card to work in Windows under MP. I have tried both TV Server and MP 2.x with pretty much the same results as you. I find it mildly amusing that I have a card that actually works under Linux but not under Windows. Gotta be a first :)

I will be watching this thread with interest as I am now down to 3 cards instead of my 4 I was used to under MythTV.

Cheers
Bruce
