Just wanted to share my experience with some problems I have had with tuning channels and my solution. Maybe it can help others and maye not.

The problem and solution is related to Tevii USB S660 tuner.

For about 14 days I have had problems tuning channels. I tried a lot of things to solve the problem fx. changing codes all audio/video codecs a lot of times, changing the timeshift buffer and recording path to another hdd, reinstalled MP 1.2RC, changning tv livbrary.dll and other MP files with the ones that might fix similiar problems some are facing with 1.2RC etc.

Last night I began to test if the problem could be one of my two tuners Hauppauge or the Tevii one. I used the function "Test channels" in TV server configuration. And quickly it was clear that I had a lot of failed tunes and tuning was also very slow, but only with the Tevii tuner.
Then I remembered that I did install newest Tevii driver for my S660 and it was about 14 days ago. Rolled back the driver to this one 5.1.4.0 from 13-01-2011 and tested again.

Now tuning do not fail on my Tevii and it is faster.

It is working now, but maybe I will replace the Tevii tuner because it is much slower at tuning compared to the Hauppauge internal card.

Tuning time on Hauppauge is 90% of times 200-1200 msec and Tevii 90% 1200-2500 msec based on about 1200 tunings.

Hauppauge do have some few tunings that take along time up to 9500msec and Tevii do have some very fast tunings down to about 150 msec.

Maybe others with Tevii problems should try old driver.

    Hi chrik

Have you got some logs? It would be good if we could investigate the issues with the new driver.

    Hey mm1352000

I have done som testing and hope it might help solving the problem and maybe also lowering tuning time with this box.

First I have made "extreme" channel changing test with the test function in "TV server config with the old driver and best driver so far for me.
    The result was:

    Hauppauge
    3462 tunes
    Average 807 msec
    0 failed

    Tevii
    3400 tunes
    Average 1451 msec
    0 failed

And then I upgraded to newest driver from Tevii again from their website version 5.1.6.5 from 27-07-2011.
I have attached logs from two tests with this driver. But I have made 4 test and it took from 67-320 tunes to get a failed tuning.

Channel tuning time was average always 1900+msec = BAD I think

    Hi again

    Thanks for the logs :D
Indeed, I'd have to concur with you:

    2011-09-10 22:28:46.346937 [(25)]: TeVii: Start CustomTune F:10841000 SR:24500000 LOF:9750000 P:TPol_Horizontal HI:False M:TMOD_AUTO FEC:TFEC_7_8
    2011-09-10 22:28:47.747017 [(25)]: TeVii: Send CustomTune: 1
2011-09-10 22:28:47.747017 [(25)]: dvb:Custom tune method finished with result True

Most of the time is consistently being taken in the driver tuning process. Our TeVii dll is at least a year old now, so I wonder if they have a new one that is faster and that works better with the new driver.

    Hey MM

    Great you found the problem.

Are you going to contact Tevii about the DLL? Or is it something you have to make a newer version of?

EDIT: Forgot to say :D so far :D

    Great you found the problem.
Not so much of a problem as a limitation. My comment was just to say that the slowness is entirely down to the driver and DLL that TeVii have provided to us.

Are you going to contact Tevii about the DLL? Or is it something you have to make a newer version of?
We can't make a newer version ourselves. TeVii will have to provide it. I will contact morpheus_xx who was the person who implemented TeVii support. There is no guarantee that there will be an updated DLL, and even if there is there is no guarantee that it will improve tuning speeds with the new driver.

Looking forward to hear what you and morpheus_xx find out about the DLL :)

Hope it will improve overall performance.

    Hey michael01376

I think it is the one in the attached ZIP.

I am using Windoes 7 64 bit. The ZIP contains also the 32 bit driver.

    Hi chrik

I've been in contact with TeVii and they are asking for your help. Are you able to identify which driver version was the first with the slower tuning and failures? I can request copies of previous drivers if necessary...
