powerline is not worth the money. bandwith only allows you to use it for ADSL. (not speaking about the theoretically bandwith ;) )

powerline has many flaws, i.e. you never know on which socket it will work, and it can also happen that if your neightbor turns on his washing machine your powerline dies.

New PLC technologies are now ready to support 200Mbits ! :)

in theory yes. might work in the laboratory, but the quality of the powerline network depends to 100% on the local electrical installations and high frequence influences (antennas, dimmer switch, electrical engines i.e. vacuum cleaner, washing machine.... )
all those factors make your powerline slow an increases the latency.

its nice for ADSL, but not more in the most cases.

    Hi,

interresting where the discussion goes. :)

    802.11n -> 200 Mbit/s up to 540 Mbit/s (brutto)

The brutto rate is also the reason, why 802.11b won't work for video streaming. Netto you might get 3 - 5 Mbit/s. With 802.11g 20 Mbit/s (very good conditions). Typical TV stream 4 MBit/s, can raise up to 9 and 25 for HDTV. So it wont fit into the WLAN-wire. ;)

Wired speed stagnant? I know time where 10 MBit was great (and I am not tooooo old ;)). We are now at 1 GBit at home. Increase x100! :)

    Flip.

Gigabit uses the same cables as Megabit (i.e. 1000BT uses same cable as 100BT). So all you need is a gigabit switch/router.

Beyond that, you can always go fibre-optic

p.s. hmm... does it sound as impressive if netgear were selling you a 5MB/s wireless router?

    lol yeah

just wonder what conditions they are testing under though?

wireless connection points a 1mm apart, lead external walls lined with aluminium.

    back to the point

I think this Server/client set up idea is fantastic and will take MP to a whole new level. People are going to have some unbeleivable setups after this, WOW factor max!!!!

will the n standard make enough of a difference anyway. i know increased range but speed?

really though their have been so many advances in wifi recently, why does wired speed seem stagnant.

Wired is nothing but stagnant :) 10GBASE-T has been accepted 1 month ago !
