Really anoying!

Can anyone assist me in changing my settings so that I can resume from standby without entering a password.

I change the settings in the power options menu and untick the box that says ask for password on resume and then I restart and it will go into standby once and come out of it fine but the next time I go into standby when I come out again it says this computer is in use and licked and requests a password.

I intend to not have a mouse on this pc so I need to permanently disable the admin passwords etc when it comes out of standby.

Anyone else having the same issue? or can shed some light on a solution.

Thanks

aidbish

try running the following command and have a look at the options there

    control userpasswords2
there is an option to make users use a username and password to use computer, try unticking it

Are you using an ATI video card with Catalyst > 7.2? If so, disable the ATI Hotkey service.

    more details, ati etc

    Hi
walkerx, Sorry, I forgot to add all the details again at the start. I am using windows xp pro, CPU:AMD 64bit Athlon 4000+ AM2 Dual Core 2.1GHzx2 1MB L2
    Graphic card:ATI Radeon 256MB Geforce X1250 onboard
    MOBO:ASUS M2A-VM HDMI AMD690G Motherboard,

kiesow, I do indeed have ATI catalyst driver 7.2 installed so I will try to disable the hotkey service

aidbish, I have done that and unticked it but I believe that is only referring to user accounts. Once I had removed the user accounts and the welcome screen that is when I found out I now had the this computer is locked issue.

Thanks for the replies and kiesow I will post back if I have any success with the ATI driver.

    Also I am using Mediaportal 0.2.3.0 RC3

Kiesow. I disabled the hotkey service in the ATI catalyst control panel and I thought it had solved it as I went into and out of standby several times but unfortunately the eight time when it came back out I got the message again that the computer is in use and has been locked please enter password.

It is very frustrating because so far the HTPC has just been a buggy computer but if I can sort that out, it will actually be a lot closer to a decent piece of home theatre equipment.

Is there more than one user, i personally always deleted the asp.net profile under control panel\users.

Just make sure all settings are the same.

Piranha, I have unticked that box but when I come back out of standby it asks for a password and then when I go back into the power options it is reticked.

Paranoid delusion, I have gone into control userpasswords 2 and selected no welcome screen so it always starts as administrator which is fine with me, so will it still have an effect to remove the other users?
I will try anyway by going into control panel, user accounts and just deleting everything except administrator and see how I get on.
    Thanks to you both

I deleted the .asp user account and then went into power options again to make sure that the user password on resume was unticked and went to standby again and unfortunately it still told me the pc was locked and asked for a password when I resumed from standby.
It must be getting the setting reinstated from somewhere but I dont know where to look.
