one last note
Still no response from AMD - but
In the AVS forum I found this:
The ATI driver installs a service called 'Ati HotKey Poller'. If this service is set to manual then after the next restart the strange 'Power Option' changes are gone.
Tested this with Catalyst 7.10 and it works fine!

Hey there GregorV.
Glad you found a solution. I was watching with interest because I was getting nowhere. I have since uninstalled and fully re formatted my pc and once I reinstall the catalyst drivers, I will give that a try.
