Those with NVIDIA video, Hauppauge TV, please read! (1 Viewer)

Are you using:
1) NVIDIA video card
2) Hauppauge TV card
3) Mpeg2 decoder

If so, and you have successfully obtained good picture quality for television viewing, I'd be interested in your setup! Being that it appears quite a few of us are NVIDIA + Hauppauge users, others may find this post useful as well. I should also mention that I'm using an LCD monitor, connected using a DVI-D cable.

I'll start off the post with my setup, although I haven't found the best deinterlace combinations (yet) using MP's built-in Mpeg2 decoders. Which is why I'm bringing this up. :wink:

Hardware Components

TV Card: Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 500 MCE
Monitor: LCD 37" connected via DVI

Audio Codec: MPEG/AC3/DTS/LPCM Audio Decoder
Video Renderer: VMR9 - Renderless
Deinterlace Mode: None
Post Processing: No

MP Setup - Filters - MPEG2Dec Video Decoder
Enable planar YUV media types: Yes
Always display forced subtitles: Yes
Brightness/Contrast/Hue/Saturation: Untouched
Deinterlace method: Blend

Dont know how much use this one will be because no matter the setting Ive been getting tearing in 0130 and 0200. It used to be fine in 0120.

Deinterlace Mode: Auto (but tears no matter the setting)

Id usually be worried but I never watch live tv on MP and it doesnt do it for anything else. My recorded tv programs looks great.

if you check hauppage's website they state that there could be problems when using the pvr line of cards with a mobo based on a via chipset. i think they have some info and downloads to help fix that problem.

was just wondering, is the quality of your live tv ok or are you having problems?

My live tv isnt to good, i have a hauppauge pvr 150 + nvidia card connected to an LCD tv via dvi and the quality isnt that good. I can split my tv picture and show normal tv through my sky box and also through MP, and having these pictures next to each other definately shows difference. The colours are not as sharp and the picture isnt very smoothe through MP.

john
