MyTV: Some channel changes hang when Timeshift is ON

    CVS: 10-08-2005--19-21

    Windows Version: XP Professional SP2
    CPU Type: AMD 2400+
    Memory: 512MB
    Motherboard Chipset: VIA KM400 chipset
    Video Card: ATI Radeon 9550
    Video Card Driver: 6.14.0010.6561 (English)
    Video Render Type: VMR9
Video Codec Type & Version: nVidia Video Decoder
Audio Codec Type & Version: DScaler Audio Decoder
    TV Card: DVICO FusionHDTV DVB-T
    TV Card Type: DVB-T
    TV Card Driver: 3.11
    Satelite/CableTV Provider: N/A

    Error description:

I have 6 channels in a group, and I change channels by stepping through them with the CH up/down button on the MCE Remote.

The 6 channels are (in sequence):-

    Seven
    Nine
    Ten
    ABC
    ABC 2
    SBS

    1. start mediaportal in fullscreen mode
    2. go to MyTV, with Timeshifting enabled
    3. tune to channel 7 - OK
    4. press CH Up to change to Nine - OK
    5. press CH Up to change to Ten - OK
    6. press CH Up to change to ABC - OK
    7. press CH Up to change to ABC 2 - sound mutes and video freezes on the last frame of previous channel (ABC)
    8. press CH Up to change to SBS - sound still muted and video still on the last frame of ABC
    9. press CH Up to change to Seven - sound still muted and video still on the last frame of ABC
    10. exit MediaPortal. Restart MediaPortal and select My TV. Channel Seven is now displayed OK.

This hanging occurs in both directions of the channel change, and ONLY occurs when Timeshift is ON.

The hanging always occurs when I change from ABC to ABC 2, and when I change from Seven to SBS.

The hanging occasionally (rarely) occurs between other channels.

I can always exit MediaPortal, and then resart MediaPortal and the last channel selected will play correctly. MediaPortal does not hang.

    Hi DMAN,

I have just applied the latest CVS and now I get the same result as you - I can't change channels at all with Timeshift ON.

However, channel changes are fine with Timeshift OFF.

I get similar issues with the last couple of CVS (at least same cause but different symptoms).

With TS off, everything works as usual. With TS on, I can tune into ch 7 but get nothing but a black screen when I try to change channels.

If I turn off TS and then change to a different channel, it tunes correctly. Then if I turn on TS or press record and I am not on channel seven then the screen goes black again. If I am on channel seven then everything works as usual when I record or TS.

I have applied CVS 10-17-2005--23-32 and this problem seems to be fixed.

Channel changes appear to be quicker, and it doesn't matter if I have timeshifting ON or OFF, the channel changes are fine...:)

Hmm unfortunately I get the same problem with newer cvs build I just rolled back to CVS 10-17-2005--23-32 with the same result.

Basically as soon as timeshift is on all i get is a black screen in mytv and the machine seems to chug. Unfortunately I can't turn timeshift off as I then get tearing of the tv picture (big thread on the other forums which never got solved).

cvs-10-13-2005--00-32 appears to be the most stable for me but even then after some extended watching every now and then no signal will pop up and corrupt (jump backwards and forwards the timeshift buffer) until I restart the application. Unfortunately the above cvs also doesn't pick up the dolby audio streams which the newer cvs builds do but as mentioned they have the timeshift bug so I'm sooo close to having a fully useable app if I could have those two things working together.

fingers crossed a new build soon works this out.

P.S while I'm here is there any way to relocate the timeshift buffer directory? the reason I ask is my C: partition is quite small but I have plenty of space on D:

Yes, there is - in MP Configuration\Television\Capture Cards\Edit\Recordings you can specify where TV recordings (and the timeshift buffer) will be saved.
