Timeshifting issue (1 Viewer)

Hey,
Media Portal is up and running very nicely in most respects for me. I have one issue with the timeshifting functionality and I am not sure if it is a hardware or software issue.

When I am watching TV with timeshifting on, it works most of the time, but after I have been recording for a while it can start to stutter and give me intermittent problems. Once this starts if I try to rewind or skip back a few minutes I risk a complete freeze. If I watch TV with timeshifting disabled then I get no issues with the TV stuttering or starting to jump. Does anyone else have this issue? It seems to me like it is an issue with writing the time shift buffer to the hard drive.

Any ideas or experiences would be appreciated.

    Hi,

    What happens if you change the channel, if this stutter occurs?

    Where do you record to? Configure->Television->Capture Cards->Edit
    How much space is there left?
    Can you change the recording folder to another drive?

    Flip.

    Once it starts happening, changing the channel doesn't really help. I have heaps of storage space left over (100 GB on my seagate SATA drive).

    Just to clarify - this doesn't happen on a predictable basis. Last night I watched a movie on TV and the timeshift function worked perfectly. Other times it can cause the whole thing to stutter and freeze up.

    Cheers,
    Ben

    Synopsis::

    Im having the same problem. And also when not using timeshift, my audio/sound gets out of sync after a while.

    Problem description:Tv out of sync without timeshift on, and studdering picture / sound when using timeshift for a period of time.(fixes with channelchange / fastforward)

    Solution:
    I tried 8 different drivers for that soundcard also for different motherboards (abit, Asus) and legacy drivers from Realtek. nothing worked. Also tried numerous of different codecs, all same problem.

    So i disabled the Soundcard in bios and installed my old Leadtek 6x Soundcard with CMI8737 chipset (c-media). Now everything works smooth.
    I have heard alot of people have this problem with the ac'97 ALC850 sound chip from realtek, and only solutions i have found on the internet has all been to disable it and install another card like c-media or Soundblaster etc.

    I had similar issues - stuttering with timeshifting on, audio sync problems with it off. For me, the biggest improvement was to change the audio rendering device, not the codec, the rendering device. Oddly, this doesn't seem to be possible within the setup utility. Instead you have to do it within media portal itself. from the home page, select:

    Settings->MyTv->Audio Renderer

    I think thats right anyway, its pretty obvious once you are in there.

    I found that changing to the default directsound output solved most of my stuttering issues. The media portal selected default was a wave out device. Changing to a direct sound one solved my stuttering almost entirely.

    Hope this helps some people, although I think I saw a post saying that some people had difficulty with ac3 passthrough using direct sound - I can't comment on that I'm afraid, as I currently use good old lo tech stereo, runing my hifi from the computers line out. Very backwards I know....
