just off the top of my head, a few things to check....

disable any anti-virus software you have - Norton & McAfee are notorious for screwing up timeshifting

Harddisk for buffer is in DMA mode, rather than PI/O
(settings under device manager or in the bios)

Also, the MediaPortal.log file might give us a clue.

Run MediaPortal again and reproduce the "stuttering" and then close MediaPortal. Post the resulting log file here as an attachmnet and note the precise time that the stuttering commenced so we can relate it to an event in the log file.

I'm very anti those...anti-viruses :p For that that reason and others. The machine runs no anti-virus.

I will check the mode of the hard drive when I get home.

I will grab the log file. It pretty much works perfectly on live TV, I click the menu item to turn on timeshifting, and as soon as the video restarts the stuttering begins. Hopefully that will log an event so I can see what happens after it.

Thanks for the suggestions thus far guys, it must just be something small.

If its any consolation I have exactly the same problem running latest version 0.2.1.0
I was going to ask if there is a way of disabling timeshifting completely as my tv just struggles all the time with it turned on.
It hic cups a bit when turned off but I put this down to the dvb-t signal degrading slightly.
    I have an Athlon 1800+, 1gig ram, black gold dvb-t, ati radeon 9550 256mb.
Can not stop the picture from stuttering, wife really annoyed.
Have also a Vstream dvb-t card but its been disabled due to its ability to pick up all the channels.
I would like to give the TV Server a try but as media portal tv play struggles am holding back on it.
Would love to be able to stream tv to my xbox and psp at some point.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Peter.
